oh oh oh !! i have an idea!!madladyredMay 1 2009, 00:33:19 UTC
The Lion's Club!! Remember those coupon books they sell to area restaurants and stuff? It's to raise money for buying glasses! Because you can donate your old pairs of glasses when you buy a coupon book *or* even if you can't afford the coupon book they'll be happy if you give them glasses. (They reuse the frames.)
As I drop out myself I'd like to say thank you for all the people you are currently trying to help get their GED. (I did it myself without the classes) As a kid who had a problem no one ever noticed, I'd again like to say thank you for even noticing he had an issue and then trying to find a way to help him, without even knowing if he'll welcome the help.
Good luck with your new quest and I hope you find a way to get him glasses. I hope for you and him that he's willing to try it.
If you can't find anyone willing to get him free glasses... maybe you can.. take up a collection. I'd be willing to send you money for something like that.
I talked to the guy and he actually seemed happy about the prospect of glasses. I was pleasantly surprised. =o) So I emailed the Lions club and got the forms, now all we have to do is fill them out and turn them in. Oh, and in other news, his scores are improving and he's feeling very encouraged by his progress. Woot!! He's doing a great job. =o) There is success in his future, I can tell.

I knew there was a club out there that did stuff like that, but I kept thinking it was the Shriners. Awesome! =o)
I'll be calling them tomorrow. =o)

But it's times like this that make me really love being a teacher.
Update: I called around and got the info and the forms for the glasses. Next time I see him, I'm gonna talk to him about it.
