SORRY, NO SUFFERING. Yet. We've gotta make you guys work for it first.
That satellite that's been lying dormant will suddenly start beeping at 11 A.M. tomorrow (that would be Sunday, for people like me who can't remember days). It's not a deafeningly loud sound, but anyone heading to the shopping district will definitely hear it in the distance. Question is, what suddenly made it activate? Or maybe you should ask who. WELP. YOU'LL KNOW IN TIME.
There may be a few lingering Heaven Smile in the way, but those curious enough to investigate will be able to walk right up to the satellite. A small compartment is propped open near the front, revealing a small keypad and screen. Now the satellite has been activated again, the keypad has lit up, and on the screen flashes... a code.
YOUR JOB: Solve the code and enter it into the keypad to shut the damn thing up. What happens if you don't solve it in time? You don't wanna know.
Before I give out the actual code, here are the OOC instructions on how to solve it. In character directions will be given by Jas' character (insinuo) so keep a look out for her!
The keypad is set up much like a miniature keyboard. You know, the sort that are used for texting on phones. The code will be in a series of letters that don't really spell anything. For each letter given, the answer will be one of the four keys directly touching that letter on the keyboard going from right to left.
EXAMPLE TIME BECAUSE IT GETS CONFUSING WHEN I TRY TO EXPLAIN IT:
Let's say you've been given the letter D. The answer to that part of the code will be either S, C, F, or E. Like so:
Only one can be the right answer. So how will you know? Trial and error.
Now looking at your keyboard, you'll see some places that DON'T have four letters touching. We'll use K as an example. The four keys surrounding K are J, I, L, and... < ?! THAT'S NOT A LETTER. In this case, you'll have to use a rollover. In this case, you'll just move on to the other side of the keyboard and use Z.
IMPORTANT: Rollover letters ONLY go right to left and top to bottom. Bottom letters just use the four letters touching it. So if you've been given V, your answer will be either F, C, B, or G.
AND BECAUSE I'M TOO LAZY TO ILLUSTRATE ANYMORE:
The corresponding letters for L are O, K, A, and Z
The corresponding letters for I are O, K, U, and Z
I know this is all pretty confusing, so PLEASE ask questions if you're not sure about a letter. Also, OOC hint: The end result will spell a real word (in English, not Latin). Characters will not know this, but it's not too hard to figure out once you get going.

Yes, I sort of did that on purpose. Now, you don't have to solve the puzzle, but anyone is welcome to. A post will be made shortly with screened comments to post your answer.
The first person to solve the puzzle gets a special role in starting the event!
Here's the catch: They will die doing so.
Six or seven more people will be also needed for the next part of the event, so the next in line to solve the puzzle will get priority with filling these slots, and we'll ask for volunteers if all the slots are not filled. These people might die. Who knows, you might be the lucky one to live :)
This part of the event will end Friday, January 16. That give you six days including today to get crackin'. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ♥
[EDIT]: Linda raised the question of whether this can be solved OOCly if you characters CAN'T solve it ICly. (Because Evil King Linda cracking a code? MADNESS.) The answer is yes, but if you do solve it, just add in that you want to be put on the priority list rather than being the actual code-cracker when you go to answer.
Ideas and whatnot can of course be shared ICly, but try to keep it to yourself as much as characterization permits.
[SON OF AN EDIT]: HOLY FUCK well we might not need six days after all. Dayum, people. AS EVERYONE SEEMS EAGER, the event may end sooner if all the slots are filled before Friday. If that's the case, we'll give you a few days heads up to let you know the new ending date.
