A wild plot appeared! (BLIZZARD INFORMATION)

Feb 06, 2010 01:25

The snow started a while ago, now, but on Saturday (February 6th) around noon it gets a lot heavier. The wind starts picking up. The temperature drops. By evening, the sudden increase in winter weather has upgraded to what can officially be called a huge-ass blizzard. As the report on spectavi implied, the temperature will remain around 0°F, -17°C; it might increase or decrease a few degrees, but otherwise it'll stay steady at that temperature for the duration of the blizzard. The snow will hit nearly 3 feet/1 meter, winds will be very very strong.

This weather will last until February 10th, at which point the snow will let up and the winds will die down; flurries will continue for a few days, but characters should be able to start digging themselves out of the deep snow around that date.

There's some important stuff to keep in mind during this event, so we'll break it down into parts:

Monsters: the edible monsters have not entirely disappeared, but they're fewer in number the more they're hunted, which could coencide with the scientists' mysterious and continuous silence. Smaller edible monsters like keese will still be plentiful (in fact, some of them will probably be heading indoors to escape the cold), but the mad cows and wolves are at dangerously low numbers, maybe a dozen to twenty. Sorry to say, you guys will probably be fighting over those.

Structural Damage: A lot of buildings will be getting hit by the storm during the duration of it. A lot of the older abandoned buildings might end up half-collapsed under the weight of the snow, or the strong winds. However, more substantial damage will be happening during the event too.

On February 6th, late in the evening close to midnight, the High School's generator is gonna blow out from all the stress put on it.

On February 7th, strong gusts of wind hit the Horton apartments, causing the windows on one side to blow out. This is the scope of the damage by apartment. Additionally, the pipes in the Marshall apartments will be cracking and could end up flooding a lot of areas, and then freezing over.

On February 8th one of the abandoned neighbor buildings to Latimir gets knocked into it by a strong battering of wind. It will knock out walls and damage rooms along that side of the building; again, here's the damage by apartment.

On February 9th, the Gohl rowhouse roof will collapse under the weight of the snow, damaging the attic and possibly causing some damage to floors beneath as well.

On February 10th, there's going to be a massive power outage in the Hospital; it won't last for long, but some old wiring will cause a fire to spark. It'll start at the lower level lobby and blow through the west hallway, possibly hitting some rooms on the upper level as well.

Deaths: Characters don't need death approval for this event, however, characters who die during the event won't be brought back until February 11th at the earliest. Additionally, bodies of dead people will not disappear during the event. They will all disappear on the 10th at the earliest. Until then, you're stuck with them.

Animals: We know that there are a lot of domestic animals in the city right now. Most of them, and possibly a lot of animals in the barn as well, are going to die either from starvation, cold, or people being desperate enough to eat them. This will include a couple of chocobos and chickens, MOST of the dogs/cats in the city (young ones especially; some of the older ones might slide by, but your kittens will likely not last long) will be dying by these means, as well. Try to think realistically about the impact this particular setting would have on them.

Overall we want to emphasize that this is going to be a time for hardcore survival skills. People in the city are desperate by this point, they're cold, hungry and tired. We'd like to encourage (and really, expect) a lot of bickering, fighting, stealing and generally desperate behavior. Think about the real risks involved in a setting with intense cold, close quarters and no food, both on a health level and a mental level. There are over 300 characters in the city and nor enough means to feed them all. Will they be working together? Fighting against each other? Scrambling and clawing at each other for that last can of meat? With dead people not being revived and no word for the scientists, will they be feeling hopeless? Terrified?

We're laying out the setting, but making this event as interesting as it can be is up to you. A setting like this could have some severe impact on the mental state of most characters in some way, and we want to encourage you guys to explore that.

So basically? We're all fucked. The best solution?
