Santana lay on her bed staring up at the ceiling. She'd been sent home from school after her fight with Finn, something about a suspected concussion and apparently she needed to rest. She felt fine though, aside from feeling slightly nauseous every time she stood up but that was a minor problem. She had much bigger issues she needed to be sorting out right now, like trying to explain to her girlfriend that today's events had absolutely nothing to do with her for once.

Also she was still trying to work out why a particular blonde cheerleader was sitting on a chair in the corner of her room.

“Why the hell are you here?” Quinn looked up at the sound of the Latina's voice and noticed her gaze was still concentrated on the ceiling above her. She dropped hers to the floor and aimlessly played with the bottom of her Cheerios top.

“Concussions are pretty serious, you shouldn't be alone.” Santana managed a small scoff, but still remained staring at the ceiling.

“I could think of so many people I'd rather have sitting with me right now.” Her voice lacked it's normal malicious edge, in fact Quinn found it rather unsettling how exhausted the brunette sounded.

“I'm sure you can, but none of those people seemed to be around when you needed help back there.” Santana cringed at the truth in the blonde girl's words. Truth be told there was only one person she wanted here with her right now, but the likeliness of that happening was about as high as seeing Kurt running through the school naked tomorrow. She was brought out of her thoughts by the soft voice coming from the corner of her room again.

“I was going to find Brittany, but someone said something about her taking Rachel home after she got slushied.” Santana winced as she thought back to when she saw Rachel, her expression a mix between anger and humiliation. She felt physically sick as she thought how bad it must have been to actually have to go home, usually she has her emergence supply of clothes stuffed in her locker. She groaned and smacked herself in the head lightly, immediately regretting the action after she felt a surge of pain ricochet around her skull. She let her upper body drop back down to the bed and covered her face with her hands. Not even one day had passed and she'd already managed to fuck up her plan of looking after Rachel.

Fuck this. She was going to sort this right now. She moved to get up and immediately felt dizziness set in as she shakily stood up. She quick;y grabbed onto her bedside table and took a few deep breathes. Quinn was at her side again in a second and was gently trying to guide her back to the bed but Santana refused, lightly shoving her away.

“Get you damn hands off me Fabray-” She growled out and started moving towards her door, grabbing her keys along the way. Quinn rolled her eyes and made a move towards her again.

“You need to rest Santana.” The Latina slapped her hands away and turned towards her, pointing a finger to her chest.

“I don't know why the fuck you're suddenly so concerned about my well being but seriously, get the hint and leave me alone.” She slowly walked down the hall, bracing herself along the wall with her hand for a while until she felt the dizziness start to wear off. She managed to make it to the bottom of the stairs before Quinn spoke.

“I'm concerned because I care Santana. Just stop and think for a damn minute will you?” Santana whipped round to face the girl again and got right in her face.

“You lost the right to be concerned about me around about the same time you decided to throw me to the dogs and I ended up having some freshman's knees destroying my spine.” Quinn's gaze dropped to the floor, but Santana wasn't finished. She snapped her fingers to get her attention again. “I have more important matters to deal with right now Fabray so I'm going to say this one more time. Leave me the fuck alone.” She turned and opened the front door and took one step outside before Quinn spoke again.

“I overheard who ordered the attack on Rachel.” The brunette froze, Quinn could see her shoulder rise and fall with the deep breaths she was taking. “I know it wasn't you. Me and Brittany spent lunch together just sitting and talking in the maths room. She went to go get something from her locker and that's when I overheard Karofsky and the others talking about how they just couldn't believe what would possess Finn to want to pay to have his favourite 'plaything' slushied.” Santana's fist slammed into the wall beside her with a frustrated groan causing Quinn to wince. The blonde girl moved slowly towards the Latina and hesitantly placed a hand on her shoulder, gasping as she immediately felt Santana tense. She had to chose her words wisely, it was like she had her hand on a ticking bomb.

“Santana, this is good. You can tell Rachel the truth now and-” Santana spun round stopping her from finishing her sentence. Both girls stared at each other and Quinn couldn't help but feel her stomach lurch as she saw the look in the brunette's eyes. She looked lost, exhausted and not at all like the Santana Lopez she usually had to deal with day after day.

“You think it's that easy? You think I can just waltz into her house and explain that it was Finn, her knight in shining armour? You think she'll believe me, the girl who for absolutely no reason decided to torture her for years, over that stupid B.F.G she's been pining after for God knows how long?” She swallowed the lump that had suddenly formed in her throat and let out a pitiful laugh. “I promised her she could trust me, that I'd protect her from all this shit. She couldn't even look at me when I followed her into that bathroom. She hates me.” She shut the front door and walked past Quinn and climbed the stairs.

“Wait, where are you going?” Santana just carried on walking without bothering to look back.

“Just leave me the fuck alone Quinn.” The blonde continued to stare after her dumbly until the slam of her bedroom door snapped her out of her stupor. She quickly ran up to follow her but stopped just outside her door. She heard sobbing coming from inside the room and felt a tightening in her chest. She'd never known Santana to act like this, completely defeated and breaking down.

She had to do something.

Brittany walked back into Rachel's room to see the tiny singer lying on her bed staring up at ceiling fan that hung above her. She sighed as she saw the dried tear marks on her face and slowly walked over to sit on the bed next to her. She reached out and grabbed her hand causing the brunette to look up at her. She shot her a smile and squeezed her hand gently.

“You should really talk to her, you were a lot happier when you were talking... both of you were.” Rachel sniffed but said nothing in response to the cheerleader. Brittany frowned at the unusual silence and took a deep breath before letting it out in a loud sigh. “I know Santana used to complain about you talking so much in the past, but I definitely think she misses you talking to her.” Brittany sighed when she still didn't get a response from the usually loud girl. Brittany couldn't count how many minutes exactly it had been since someone had spoken, they'd been sitting in silence for what seemed like forever and she didn't like it one bit. However she knew not to push someone when they were this upset. After a while she finally heard a small voice.

“I trusted her. Even after everything she's done to me since we started school, I let myself believe that she'd actually changed, that she actually cared about me. I was so wrong.” She whispered the last bit as more tears fell from her eyes and Brittany felt a pain in her chest as she looked at the broken girl next to her.

“I don't think you were wrong.” Rachel scoffed but Brittany carried on regardless. “No really. I haven't seen Santana much since you guys starting hanging out, which I'm not complaining about, because I got to spend more time with Quinn.” Rachel raised an eyebrow at the bright smile that broke out on Brittany's face as she mentioned the other blonde cheerleader's name. “Anyway when I did see S, she seemed really happy and relaxed. I haven't seen her like that in ages and I figured you were the cause of it.” Rachel squeezed her eyes against the fresh wave of tears that threatened to fall. “This is why I don't understand why she'd let her defences down like she did with you if this was all just some big joke. It doesn't make sense.” Her eyebrows furrowed together as she literally racked her brain trying to think of an explanation. Rachel sighed and ran her hands over her face, groaning at the growing pressure she felt behind her eyes signalling the start of a headache.

She really didn't want to have to deal with all of this right now, she couldn't make sense of anything. She wanted desperately to believe that Santana had nothing to do with it, but Finn had told her he'd overheard everything.

“Why would Finn lie to me?” She whispered, unaware she'd actually spoken the words out loud.

“I can think of plenty of reasons.” Both girls' heads shot up to where the voice had come from and their eyes settled on one Quinn Fabray, leaning casually against the door frame with her arms crossed. She'd changed out of her cheer leading uniform and was now dressed in a simple dress with her blonde hair cascading down over her shoulders. She pushed herself off the door frame and walked into the room, closing the door behind her softly. Rachel sat up and eyed the slightly shorter blonde warily.

“How did you-” Confusion stopped her from finishing her sentence and Quinn smiled shyly.

“Your front door was wide open.” Rachel slowly turned her head and raised an eyebrow at the ditzy cheer leader sitting next to her.

“Oh, it was huh?” Brittany looked between both girls in confusion, completely oblivious to what was going on. Quinn giggled and everything seemed to suddenly hit Brittany.

“I find doors confusing.” She said simply and Rachel couldn't help but smile at the adorable blonde. Barely five seconds passed before the room went silent again and the seriousness of the situation returned.

“What are you doing here Quinn?” Rachel murmured, suddenly painfully aware of more and more people seeing her at her weakest.

“Stopping you from making a really big mistake. You have no idea what happened earlier.” Rachel's head shot up and she shot an incredulous look at the head cheerleader and shook her head in disbelief.

“Seriously? I don't know what happened? Because correct me if I'm wrong but I distinctly remember I was the one who got turned into a human snow cone earlier, although hey! Maybe the amount of ice that's been thrown at me over the last few years has destroyed a few of my brain cells.” Quinn was taken aback at the sarcasm dripping from the tiny singer. It took her a few minutes before she managed to get words out of her mouth again.

“I'm fully aware of that-” She was interrupted by a still irate Rachel Berry.

“Oh you are? Then why say something as stupid as that?” Quinn frowned at the tone that was directed at her. She was here to try and help and she was getting no where. It was time to change tactics. She put on her best bitch face and scoffed at the tiny brunette.

“Okay Berry, first off sarcasm really doesn't suit you as much as you think so I'd seriously reconsider using it as much as you are, especially towards me. Secondly don't start mouthing off before you have all the facts, because as far as I see it you've taken the word of a moronic man-child before your own girlfriend and that just isn't cool and you know it.” She paused and noticed the slight fear in the brown eyes staring back at her. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair before continuing. “I'm just saying that you should have at least spoken to her about of all this, heard her side of what happened because I think you'd be surprised.” They heard the doorbell downstairs and Brittany quickly got up and mumbled something about seeing who it was before rushing out of the room, clearly uncomfortable with the confrontation taking place.

“Why should I believe you? I wouldn't be surprised if you had something to do with this-”

“It was Finn!”

Silence filled the room and both girls continued to stare each other down as the information sank in. Rachel couldn't understand, it couldn't have been Finn. The silence continued until the bedroom door opened again and Brittany stood in the doorway with the very boy himself standing nervously behind her. Rachel and Quinn both looked up and the latter glared at the tall boy.

“Look who's decided to turn up.” Her voice dripped with venom and stood up straighter as she watched him try to push past Brittany and enter the room. Brittany remained where she was and shook her head.

“You're not going in unless Rachel says it's ok.” Finn shook his head in disbelief.

“Seriously, Rach tell her to let me in.” Rachel stared at him, scrutinizing the boy who had just been accused of ordering the slushie attack. She shook her head and lifted one hand up to her head, rubbing at her temple, whilst her other pointed at him.

“No... no you stay there.” She then moved her hand to point at the blonde girl still standing in front of her. “Explain.” Quinn swallowed thickly and nodded, still very tense as she noticed Finn trying to once again push past Brittany out of the corner of her eye.

“I was sitting with Brittany in the Math room during lunch. She left to go get something from her locker and that when I heard those morons standing by their lockers talking. Karofsky was there too and I heard him mention Finn paying them for something. I got up and moved closer and heard them actually strategizing an attack. Just so you know, at the time I didn't hear them mention your name.” Rachel nodded slowly and Quinn continued. “I didn't think much of it, figured they were doing it to some freshman or something, I mean everyone sort of started to leave you alone since you started getting friendly with Santana. It wasn't until I heard about what had happened to you and then saw Santana confront Finn outside the bathroom that I finally put two and two together. I know it sounds really messed up Rachel, but seriously... Santana had nothing to do with it.” Rachel continued to stare at her, trying to search every detail of her face to make sure she wasn't lying. She quickly glanced up to Finn who was sporting a bruised face and who's expression seemed to be a mix between anger and fear. She shook her head again and rubbed at both of her temples, a full blown headache now in place.

“This doesn't make any sense.” She looked up at Quinn who was watching Finn behind Brittany.

“I know you have no reason to trust me but I swear to you I'm not lying.” Finn scoffed but quickly shut up when Rachel turned to face him suddenly. She nodded to Brittany who hesitantly moved out of the way of the door allowing Finn to quickly move in front of Rachel. He wasted no time and quickly moved to cup her face with both of his hands and smiled down at her. She took note of the roughness of his hands in comparison to Santana's soft ones and she shuddered before pushing him away from her.

“Don't. You're going to stand there and tell me the truth Finn. I can't take any more lies okay, it's getting too much and I can't take it much more.” He stood nervously and shoved his hands in his pockets.

“I didn't do anything, it was Santana.” His voice remained even and Rachel groaned inwardly as she found herself bouncing back and forth between the two accounts. She looked over to the two cheerleaders. Quinn stepped forwards ready to verbally fight the tall boy but Brittany stopped her with a hand on her shoulder and a reassuring smile before she stepped forwards herself. She stood in front of Rachel slightly and stared the boy in the eyes.

“You're going to tell her the truth, because this isn't just some stupid rumour or game, this is serious. People's emotions are getting messed around with and that's just not okay.” Finn said nothing as he watched Quinn approach and stand next to the taller blonde, effectively making a shield in front of Rachel.

“Plus, if you don't tell her exactly what happened then I'll be forced to get Puck and Mike to literally beat the truth out of Karofsky.” The two cheerleaders smirked and Finn visibly paled. His eyes flickered between the three girls for a few moments before he sighed.

“Look Rachel, you have to understand I did this to protect you.” Rachel shook her head in disbelief, tears rolling down her cheeks again and Brittany moved slightly to wrap and arm around the Brunette's shoulders, her gaze never breaking from the boy in front of them.

“She's trouble! Even if she didn't do anything this time, it's only a matter of time before she fucks you over or something. People don't change!” Rachel let out a bitter chuckle and nodded her head in agreement.

“No Finn, see that's where you're wrong. People can change and you're a prime example. You used to be gentleman and now you've managed to turn into a deceiving, manipulative ass hole. It's actually pretty ironic when you think about it, see you claim to want to protect me from a person who you've actually changed into. “ She paused and took a deep breath. “You need to go, right now.” He panicked and tried to move closer to her, only to be stopped by Quinn and Brittany's glares.

“Rach-” The tiny brunette shook her head and smirked before meeting his gaze again, determination flaring through her bright brown eyes.

“In case you haven't noticed, my own stupidity and blindness has possibly cost me one of the most important people I have in my life right now. So I haven't really got time to waste on you right now.” He sighed, realising he was fighting a losing battle and nodded before walking out of her room, muttering a sorry on his way out. The adrenaline from the confrontation started to slip away as she heard the front door slam downstairs and she slumped in exhaustion into the arms of Brittany. She murmured a thank you to the tall blonde who merely smiled in reply. She pulled away when she heard the other blonde clearing her throat and turned to see her holding her jacket and keys.

“Don't you have somewhere you need to be?” She raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow and smiled as Rachel nodded furiously, grabbing her things off Quinn before frantically grabbing her phone.

“Come on, my car's downstairs I can drive you.” Rachel smiled at Quinn who returned it before the three girls ran downstairs and out of the house towards the car.

“I'm coming baby.” Rachel muttered as she fastened her seatbelt and the car pulled away.
