In your adopted state of California, it was illegal for Asian and white couples to marry as recently as 1948. That blows my mind every time I read that.

You are right, and ~1900 they enacted some laws regarding Chinese immigrants that are simply horrifying by today's standards.

I like to think we are making progress as a species... maybe I'm an optimist. :-)
