Train

May 03, 2011 19:29

Saw a train the other day with 10 engines pulling it. 2 CSX, 5 BNSF, and 3 MARC. (In that exact order even.)

We didn't stick around to see just how long the train they were pulling actually was, although I'd assume it was a really long one if it needed 10 engines in front. :-P

Google Maps says the crossing I saw it at is at (41.50960, -86.89374) if that means anything.

Odd thing is, it looked like it had maybe stopped just before the crossing and had just started moving again, although it was moving right along by the time we saw it approaching (41.51197, -86.91316) (Dad had to take the long way around to there though, there were a bunch of parked vehicles blocking that road that runs parallel to the tracks.

It was pretty fun when he gunned it over that crossing to beat the arms, we got some lift on that.

10 units is pretty unusual! They were probably just moving some power from one place to another or perhaps they were moving some units to be serviced. The MARC units would be very unusual.
