Summary: It’s only a lie if it’s said out loud.
Balthazar wasn’t lying when he said “The one in the dirty trench coat, who’s in love with you.” and it pissed him off that the two humans were oblivious to it. At least Dean should have seen the love and devotion that consistently put Castiel into danger but no; the repressed idiot thought he wasn’t worth it. Even now the fool was mentally screaming that both the denial and hope …. And there it goes to straight out denial again, at least they were predictable.
It wasn’t true, it couldn’t be true, please, God be true. Dean’s thoughts were scrambling to process the information when it clicked. It was just another dick angel with another lie.
Sam wished he could be surprised when he heard that Castiel was in love with Dean, wished that he could be worthy of the love that Castiel obviously showed his brother, wished that the war in Heaven would end soon, if just for the reason that maybe then Dean will get his head out of his ass and be happy with Cas. Sometimes in that dark corner of his mind that he hated to acknowledge he wondered, would Castiel’s lips feel as chapped as they looked? Would his hands have calluses from wielding his sword? Would Castiel look at him as more than a demon-blood dinking abomination?
He should smite Balthazar where he stood for telling the Winchesters his secret. It’s not like they believed Balthazar in fact the brothers flat out denied that it was true. Castiel hardened his heart as he thought about what he was doing to win this unwinnable war. Dean would never know that their bond was stronger than ever, Sam would never know what regret Castiel felt for the way he treated Sam. He let out a hoarse bark of laughter; neither Winchester knew that they were a packaged deal in more ways than one. He had envy to the Winchesters their denial, it made his life easier.
