I kind of hadn't thought about this trip much, and now suddenly I am here. It is nice and cool out here. Wonderful. So far we haven't done much aside from have 2 delicious vegan meals (the West coast is so much nicer to my kind)--a fried "chicken" sandwhich and "steak" with Thai noodles--and we went to a taping of a Bill Mahr online show. They're your photos so you have the copyright. Just because you put them on a site that anyone can see (and swipe) doesn't mean they can and should.

There are different settings on flickr that you can set that let people know how or if they can use your photos (All rights reserved, commons, etc), but it's always good to ask people if you're going to use their photos for something other than mere blogging.

And you don't need the permission of the people in your photos since they were in a public place.

Thanks. I figured you might know the answers to all that. I knew that there must be some kind of laws restricting use, but I just wasn't sure how it has all played out online. I guess it is also weird because I just put them up there for friends and family but I make them public because I not everyone I know has a flickr or yahoo account, so it feels weird to be asked to use something for another purpose. Seems like it is for a good thing so I'm not that worried.

If it's getting used commercially then the person who emailed you should technically ask permission from all the people in the photo. There was lawsuit a couple months ago...
