my sister pinned directions on how to make oak look like it's stained really dark. i wonder if you could try it out on a cabinet in the bathroom or something first? or go find some wood at goodwill and try that out.

white trim is the current trend as far as I can tell. that would make a huge difference - you could paint the doors too. we have white doors & trim all over.

Yes, white trim would look so much better! We also have these plastic fake-wood doors.
