The other rehearsals had ended hours earlier, and so the stage was empty. Maladicta had come from the compound, in her jeans and tunic because she had no idea what the costumes would be, so she didn't know what would work for practice clothes. Jim had taken a little longer because he had stopped in to talk to Pam. He figured it was the kind of thing he should tell her about, because he didn't want her to find out later and think he was hiding something. The acting thing was still new to him, as was how he was supposed to deal with things.

He dropped his bag against a nearby tree, then lifted his own hand.

"Hey. Sorry I'm late," he said, heading over with book in hand to hop onto the stage.

"It's fine," she said with the faintest of shrugs. She herself kept William updated to an obnoxious degree on when she was rehearsing with whom, and she did this on purpose. "I've only been here a few minutes. How's Pam?"

"Tired," he said, scratching the back of his neck. "It's getting hard for her to get comfortable now. But besides that, fine. She told me to tell you she said hello. How's William?"

"Doing better," she said, smiling a little. "After Otto disappeared things were- have been a little rough, but the next edition's up soon, so he's occupied, at least."
