All gone dead

I can't help thinking about that Subhumans song "All Gone Dead" when I think about everything I once loved about Minneapolis and St. Paul closing. It's very much the same here in Edinburgh. Shops are closing everywhere, and those that remain are all away out on the edge of town, an hour's bus or tram journey away, and the same again coming back into town. But the worst change is in the music scene. Before the lockdown, I was at gigs most weekends and all the bigger punk bands played here once or twice a year, but I've only been to one event (a free punk all-dayer) since the first lockdown in March 2020. I never thought anything like this would happen. Why aren't the punks fighting back and asserting their presence?

P.S. I added you ages ago, which is why your post appeared on my home page. I'm always looking for new friends, especially folk I share musical 'likes' with, so if you add me, I'll re-add you. LiveJournal will never be entirely dead while I'm still around!

A-MEN. You know, I'm from Minneapolis and a punk rock historian/veteran of the scene just told me has no clue what's going on there anymore. The scene is as good as dead. And here in Dusseldorf, it hasn't been GREAT for a few years now either. Covid? I donno. But does it sometimes feel like this is it? Punk is finally dying?

Thank you for subscribing, but I need to let you know that you'll need to actually add me to your friends-list in order to see my friends-only posts (which they mostly are). The last three or four people who said they were going to add me only subscribed, so I'm guessing the add function maybe isn't obvious or straightforward on the mobile app? I'm a prehistoric dinosaur who hates mobile phones and is still using a desktop PC, so I don't know!
