The good fairies fail to rescue Phillip and Maleficent keeps him prisoner until he is an old man before finally releasing him. He goes to Stefan's castle, whose inhabitants are frozen in time, to break the spell, despite fearing that Maleficent is right and Aurora will not want him when she sees that he is no longer young and handsome. But true love is stronger than time and age...

+ Hubert's reaction to his son being older than he is.
++ Phillip offers to stand aside and allow Aurora to marry another man, someone young and dashing. She shoots him down and refuses to even consider anyone else.

For want of nail, they say. Funny how something so small can change everything. What could have been if fairy didn't slip? If her sister didn't catch her second too late? If damned bird didn't turn his head? Maybe they all could have lived happily ever after ( ... )

They turn key and open locks ( they didn't need to- his hands were so thin that they could be taken out of manacles, but it isn't as dramatic). He is mounted onto old, frail Samson and let to go over burning ice and dry seas, through glass mountains and dancing forests till he reaches castle ( after Maleficent's fortress was rebuilt, they put him in tower, so he could look on one his love sleeps in) and wake her with kiss of true love before he crumbles to ash. Happily ever after ( ... )

She screams, screams as cold iron cuts through her faerie nature like butter through flesh, screams as faerie power stops flow of magic she inherited by birth, human magic waning at powers of void, screams as ice touches her, as holiness in it judges and pities her at same time, as power that was granted to it with prayer destroys all Man in Black gave her. Her body perishes from age and wounds, and her soul is sucked into Hell to be imprisoned along with demons she danced with as her mind still fails to comprehend what happened, and finally, she is no more ( ... )
