Well... Yes, there kind of can. The Little Mermaid, Ariel/Anyone but Eric. anonymous January 29 2011, 02:03:06 UTC
Exposition:A D/s!AU, or sometimes a BDSM!AU, is simply a world in which the normal male/female structure of society has been replaced by Dominants and submissives, respectively. For instance, Doms are usually the breadwinners, while subs usually stay at home, clean, take care of the kids, etc. So instead of women getting the vote, it's subs getting the vote, and instead of same-sex marriage becoming legal, it's same-role marriage (D/D or s/s). It depdns on the AU, but generally gender isn't nearly as big a factor in society as role status.

Plot: Ursula, instead of stealing Ariel's voice, magically switches her role (i.e., she's a Dom instead of a sub, or vice versa, which in our society is roughly equivalant to switching her gender). The other aspects of the movie are kept the same, or adapted to suit the AU, and the three-days-to-get-true-love's-kiss rule is still in effect. Unfortunately, switching Ariel's role has also switched her sexuality... which means that she now has the same role as Eric, and isn't attracted to him ( ... )

Damn, this is a tempting one... will you accept a crossover for the eventual pairing? And is Ariel still supposed to be a mermaid, or would it be a different situation which is keeping her and Eric apart?

Yeah, sure, crossover as many people as you like. I'm just really excited this is being considered!

And, yes, she's still supposed to be a mermaid, hence she still goes to Ursula for help. The divergence point (beyond the AU in the first place) is that instead of asking for her voice, Ursula switches Ariel's role in exchange for making her human. It's up to you whether Ursula knew that switching Ariel's role would make her not view Eric as a romantic partner anymore, or if she just thought it was highly unlikely that they'd kiss in the set amount of time, regardless.

I think this is finally starting to come together... sorry that it's taken so long. Were you hoping for a big showdown with Ariel, or something slightly fluffier for a story?

No problem! I'd much rather it take long and be good than not happen at all. : )

And whichever way fits better with the story. I'd rather the idealistic black-hat-white-hat morality (and therefore judge of who lives and dies) of the old Disney movies was kept, instead of, say, Ursula winning and Ariel and whoever having to go on the run in a desolate wasteland or whatever, but beyond that, yeah, do what you want.

If you're really stuck, write whichever way is easier, like if you're better at shodown scenes than fluff, do that, and if vice versa, do that.

Okay, that was kind of rambling. Anyway, do what the story says. : ) I will be pleased with whatever you do as long as I can believe it.

Hmm, that works. I might try my hand at the showdown and see what happens. << Some reworking ahead, though it should come out well for Ariel. All right, I've got ideas, here we go!

Title: Part of Your World
Author: afterandalasia
Fandom: The Little Mermaid (/Cinderella)
Pairing: Ariel/Cinderella

Rating: Teen
Word count: 5,077
Summary: Ariel dreams of the world of humans, up above the merfolks' realm. When she saves the human Eric from drowning, she falls in love with him, and decides that she can wait no longer. Entering into a pact with the Sea-Witch Ursula, she exchanges her role in return for three days on land. But things do not always go to plan, and sometimes love is found in the most unexpected of places.

Notes: I've been working on this for quite a while, sorry that it took so long! The prompt was fantastic, though, and I just couldn't let go of it. This may someday be reworked into a longer, fuller, and more temporally linear fic, but for now this is how the story stands. ♥

I've FINALLY got to reading this. What a complex, interesting story. I did get confused at times, yes, but the mood stayed intact throughout. Very creative. I'm impressed you kept a clear direction. Interesting use of plot-jumps.
