The Rescuers:

I would love to see a fluffy/funny story where Penny and Medusa actually get along, and Penny actually likes living on the houseboat with the gators and the diamond-hunting and her awkward new parents. I don't want a dark!Penny or anything, but it would be sweet if Medusa doted on her like a pet, and Penny enjoyed the attention, and they both gang up on Snoops, or something. Please?

The moon was fat and bright, looking like she could just reach out and grab it, if only she was high enough. That was part of why Penny liked her room. As the very top of the boat she could sit at her window and see all the stars in the sky. It was much easier to see the stars in the swamp than in the city, though she imagined that the moon would be the same no matter where she was ( ... )

My favorite part of this fill is the way you take some of the things that Penny in the movie hated about her situation and turned them into the things she liked the best. I love fics that tilt perspective just a bit and end up telling an entirely new story, and this is definitively one. The descriptions of the swamp were very vivid and inviting. I also love the little details of Penny's relationship with Medusa, like the lotion that smells like lillies and the way Medusa tickles her carefully because of her long nails. I love how Medusa seems like such a cool, wacky mom while still retaining a lot of her personality from the movie. Altogether this fic paints a touching picture of a very nontraditional family.
