Ariel was a little bit less reckless than Triton gave her credit for. Before she made the deal to become human, she had spent an awful lot of her time trying to make them come to her, in the typical siren fashion. Of course, all those foolish enough to succumb to her seductive song drowned while trying to reach the beautiful mermaid. All the items in her underwater grotto were trophies from her victims.

The bloated figures of the couple who leaped in unison from the rear of a passing ship (their young, sunburned faces becoming dreamy with a lopsided smiles at the trill of Ariel's song) sink further and further down into the darker abyss of the ocean.

How unfortunate. Ariel's lips quirk downward and she manages to catch what appears to be a round, heavy, gold-colored item in one of her hands- as it floats down in front of her. She fiddles with a clasp on its side, but cannot find a means to open it.

The cave shelves of her once empty, murky grotto Ariel kept secret from everyone (everyone but Flounder, bless him) gradually become occupied with an array of human objects- but ( ... )
