Any; hero saves someone they don't like.chelonianmobileFebruary 14 2012, 16:21:25 UTC
So, take two characters, a hero and someone on their side whom they really do not like. A rival, a bitter ex-partner, an estranged or just unpleasant sibling, an annoying coworker, a bad boss, an evil step-family-member, you get the idea. The disliked character is in mortal danger, for whatever reason. And the hero, with no personal dilemma over it and no expectation of reward, saves them. Disliked character is pleased but baffled, and hero explains that they don't hate them THAT much. They still don't particularly like each other afterwards, but have a newfound respect. After all, it's not very heroic to only save people you like.
Immediate thought was Mulan preventing an assassination attempt on Chifu, but whoever is fine. I do quite like this trope with quarrelling-but-really-loyal sibling pairs, but I can't immediately think of any Disney sibs which would work. Bonus points if the rescue costs the rescuer in some way - they survive, but end up with a painful and possibly lasting injury.
