Dreaming About the Things That We Could Be
Part One
Belle's daemon finally settled on a cold morning in autumn.
They had been away from home for a little over two months now, away from the quiet town where she had grown up, and they were settling in well at university so far. Belle loved everything about university - the lectures and seminars, the library, the people she lived with, the freedom. The freedom, most of all. The freedom to read and study, to explore the city with her new friends. She had not reinvented herself, as many students seemed to do when they left home for the first time. She thrived, her confidence blooming amongst people who accepted her, who liked her for just being herself - bookish Belle with her many little eccentricities. They had accepted Aurel too, had not sneered at his unsettled form as many of her neighbours did back home. She had worried about, had imagined the other students whispering behind her back, speculating about the girl with the unsettled daemon.

Belle was undecided. She had little experience to draw upon. The only date she had ever been on had been an unmitigated disaster - Gaston, the local stud back home, had asked her out once and tried to put the moves on her in his car. Everyone thought she was crazy for rejecting him but she didn't care. He was a pig. His daemon was a pig too, a belligerent sow named Nanette

Part Three
Meg had been right, of course. Not just about Esmeralda being gorgeous, although that was undeniable. But...there was something else, something so wonderful that Belle had almost cried out when she realised that...
That Esmeralda's daemon was unsettled.Brishan perched upon his human's shoulder, a falcon with hooded yellow eyes, and then he fluttered down and shifted into the form of a sleek mink to introduce himself to Aurel, who immediately adopted the same shape. Esmeralda only grinned impishly at Belle's obvious surprise
