The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Frollo/Esmeralda anonymous September 30 2013, 23:58:09 UTC
Fluffy romcom modern AU. Frollo is a stuffy, no nonsense lawyer. Quasimodo is his teenage son, the product of a one night stand. After the sudden death of his mother in an accident, Quasi turns up unannounced on Frollo's doorstep one night. Frollo is set in his ways and not exactly child friendly but Quasi's sweet nature soon wins him round and father and son slowly bond. Quasi is painfully shy and so Frollo is surprised when the boy expresses an interest in dance. Enter Esmeralda, a spunky young dancer who Frollo reluctantly hires to teach his son. Frollo doesn't like Esmeralda. Esmeralda doesn't like Frollo. And then...BAM. They're in bed together. Cue awkward glances over the breakfast table and the inevitable "So...where do we go from here?" conversation.

Bonus:
• Quasi ships it hard.
• An über cute scene where Esmeralda coaxes Frollo into a dance, resulting in an awkward mutual realisation of the attraction between them.
• Clopin as Esmeralda's snarky gay BFF, who clicks on that she is in love waaaay before she does.

The Man

The conclusion of an especially long and difficult lawsuit is always a cause for celebration, particularly when the outcome is successful. As such, it is not surprising to find Claude Frollo in a very good mood, despite the predictably awful weather. The euphoria he felt following the resolution of the case, somewhat enhanced by a glut of champagne and a triumphant dinner with his colleagues, is not dampened by the summer rain. He hails a taxi at the end of the evening, leaving his car behind, and reclines in the backseat, smiling as the grey streets of London pass by in a blur of headlights and umbrellas. Home. The townhouse is quiet and still, slightly disorienting after the noise of the restaurant. A bottle of Chateau Margeaux - 1959, red, fucking perfect - is waiting for him. Claude slumps into the nearest chair, cradling the glass to his chest. He's quite drunk. Too much champagne. He knows the Margeaux will be wasted on him in such a state and almost regrets opening ( ... )

The Boy

The next month passes by in a slow agony of awkwardness for both parties. The DNA test Claude insisted upon proves beyond a doubt that the boy, Quasimodo, is indeed his son, the product of a long-forgotten fling in Paris almost fifteen years ago.

"My mum died three months ago," Quasimodo tells him over breakfast. Claude is pretending to read the newspaper, his mind still reeling, "It was a car crash. My step-dad was killed too. I've been living with Aunt Laverne since then."

"I'm sorry about your mother," Claude manages. The sentiment rings false. He barely remembers the woman, cannot picture her face at all...and yet she bore him a child, the living and breathing proof of their brief union, sitting just across the table from him. Quasimodo. He mouths his son's name, trying to ignore the unfamiliar quivers of fear beneath his ribcage. The silence is overwhelming. He fills it with words, "Did she tell you about me? Where to find me ( ... )

The Woman

Everything changes in the last week of summer.

Quasimodo's favourite film is Billy Elliot. Claude is not a fan, dismissing it as maudlin and melodramatic, but he takes his son to see the stage musical when it opens in the West End. The boy is enchanted, enthralled ( ... )

The WalkEsmeralda almost doesn't want go back to the house the following Saturday. Not after what Clopin said. Besides, it's been pissing down all day and she doesn't really fancy going anywhere in that weather. She dithers over the decision all afternoon until the thought of Quasimodo - and the money, of course - eventually draws her back to that familiar doorstep. Claude looks surprised to see her ( ... )

Oh my god. *flailing delight* I love this so much! I think it was the: She's outspoken, free-spirited, liberal, provocative and, as suspected, completely unsuitable. Naturally, Quasimodo adores her.

When I totally lost it and started laughing aloud. But I love this to bits and then some. The chemistry was really hot, and I loved the characterisation.
