He cares. Even though he doesn't love her, she doesn't deserve that curse, she doesn't deserve that death. She deserves someone better and a happy life, naive as she is.

And he's not going to let her die. Even if she hates him for revealing the truth, he's going to fight tooth and nail to get her help, even as she slowly dies.
