Evening in the Library

Marian was in the library. The warm afternoon sun was setting, and the evening was coming on. Marian sat down in one of the comfortable chairs, in a circle of other comfortable chairs. She scribbled down notes of her day in her diary, and watched the other students pass

Vanessa was looking for a quiet place to get some writing done, and what would you know, she found the library. While searching for the perfect spot she saw Marian staring off into the crowd. Slightly curious she walked over and waved her hand in front of Marian's face.

"Hello? Anyone home in there?"

Marian blinked a few times and shook her head. "Oh! I'm sorry," she said with a chuckle. "I totally spaced out." She realized at that moment that her diary was wide open. She quietly closed it to not arouse suspicion.

"I'm Marian, what's your name?" she said with a smile, extending her paw to the brunette.

"Vanessa," she replied and shook Marian's paw. She let go then took a seat nearby. "Must have been some pretty boring homework to make you zone out like that."

"Homework..." she said. Homework hadn't actually occurred to her. Most of the day had been spent going over class syllabuses. She doubted she had any that needed doing.

"It was more just, well... I just started here, so I don't really know anyone," she admitted shyly, "Are you?..." The girl looked young enough be a freshman, but Marian supposed that in college you could never really be sure.
