Marian walked down the sidewalk with a skip in her step, wearing her cutest summer sun dress. The night was warm, and she was on her way to the fair. She pulled her phone out of her pocket as she neared the gate. She expected her new friend, Ariel to call any minute.
Holding the phone Marian felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. She spent her whole middle school and high school career in the same city, so she hadn't had to make new friends in a long time. Ariel was the first person she met here that she had a legitimate connection with. Sure, everyone had been nice, but Ariel seemed so interesting, and as far as Marian could tell Ariel was legitimately interested in her.
As Marian neared the quad she saw the tell tale bright lights, laughter and noise of the fair rides.
