Important: Teetering On The Edge

As things stand I have one band provisionally willing to play at the ball, Swarf. Synthpop rather than trad goth but I suspect it should still work. Dress code remains the same, slightly looser perhaps, but the surreality could prove interesting. Enquiries are being made for a second band, but my own contacts and cold-calling haven't provided many ( Read more... )

Postpone; if you're clashing with something more famous already, people just aren't going to make it unless they're personal friends. Which means I would, but I'm not about to buy 300 tickets... ;)

Not only that, but organising an event of that scale can prove to be a full-time occupation. You have a job and a lovely lady also demanding your time and energy right now.

If it's not ready, don't try to force it. We're all still lined up to go, just point us at another date and we'll be there.

I think postponing to the spring would be a good idea. There's too much going on. Maybe late February or March? You should avoid April because of Whitby.

If you postponed, then issues that prevented one band from playing would no longer be relevant...

I can't promise, obviously, but it would at least become a possibility.

I would postpone. I didn't even know this was going on, and not sure how quickly you could get interest and tickets, etc with only a few weeks. This is why we're planning the Oxford ball now, although it won't take place till January.

If you'd like to pool resources as we have the same ideas, really, you're welcome to come along and do so!

Would you folks be happy with a potentially similar event scheduled for February or March? Obviously I'm not wanting to have things clash...

We felt that Feb with valentines day would be too expensive, and March would be too close to Whitby. That and we're already looking to put a deposit down for the rooms in January - we have to secure it shortly, and quickly.
