This is what ADD / ADHD is. So read it if you think it's fake stuff.

To begin, there's ADD and ADHD. Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Judging by the name, it's obviously the "Hyperactivity" part that is the difference. There may be something deeper, but this is all I know. My guess is that the hyperactivity part applies to people who have short attention spans and are ( Read more... )

Yeah, I think I had ADHD growing up and like a lot of kids, I just "grew out of it". I was always too hyper in school and would always get in trouble with teachers and no kid liked me because I was always too energetic and really annoying. Never took meds, and my parents would disagree that I even ever HAD any sort of problem ( ... )

Isn't that a sign of ADHD? I can play a video game or read a book for hours because I'm always finding something new. Constantly finding something new satisfies my short attention span.

It's when you can't focus on something repetitive, that's the problem. If you're able to just pick up Bio work on your own, then you're probably fine. Unless Bio's something you find amazing.

ADD medication is awesome. I have some Adderall XR 20 that I keep for special studying occassions. I can't imaging taking more than 20mg, though.

Yup, 20mg is kickin' well for me. And yeah, I only take it on days where I'm gonna crunch. No need for extra focus if it's gonna be a lazy day.

In my Psych class last sememster we talked about ADD/ADHD. I don't feel that diagnosing it and treating it with medication is wrong or that it is a "made up" disease. I think that too many parents/doctors are prescribing medication for lazy children. I know what it is like not to be able to focus. When you talk about the read something 4 times and not getting it.. I'm like that in math. But with everything else I'm fine.
I believe that there are many imbalances in the brain. Sometimes I feel that I am very moody. But I don't think that I have bi-polar. But maybe I do? I think that nowadays it is hard to actually find out what is wrong with people..
I respect you for taking medication for what you feel is your problem. I know someone who is suffering from depression but he will not seek help.
You do seem to be more mature, but I think that the medication is just helping you focus, like you said. It's still you, just.. more focused.
(sorry for the long post.. you just got me thinking.)

I personally don't support the prescription of ADHD medication to children. Adderall is easy to abuse, just take double your dosage if you want to be really serious for the day. Kids can't have this sort of power, they're not responsible enough.

And also, kids are just harder to diagnose correctly. Some symptoms, like that feeling that you've got an engine inside of you that is constantly running, may be a normal thing for a kid in that age. I don't know.
