HP: Remedy For The Enemy - the Half-Blood Prince [HARRYDRACO]

Nov 20, 2005 15:19

Uh. I feel so AWKWARD doing this. *embarrassed* But, um, okay. HBP!H/D fanmix here, yay! XD

Okay, so yeah. If you've read Harry Potter, or are at least have seen the movies, you probably have a good idea about how the characters are like. Obviously, Harry is the main character and the focus of the books. It's not very hard to understand him, really, since he seems to let all his emotions out and all that. Sometimes he might want to just get away from all his responsibilities, but we all pretty much know that Harry would never put anyone (with a few exceptions… *cough*voldemort*cough*) in danger willingly. But, most of the time, it's hard for Harry to see the good in a lot of people, no matter how heroic Harry may seem. Why they act the way they do. Why they say the things they do. Looking beyond the surface seems kind of hard for him to do, or not very hard, actually, he just doesn't really try much.

Now, Harry doesn't think much about any Slytherins at all. To Harry, it seems that it's obvious that they're all, or at least most, just mean and trivial people. Of course Malfoy is going to be a Death Eater just like Daddy! - no question about it in Harry's mind. After all, what else could he be? Harry, the Auror, and Malfoy, the Death Eater. It probably just made sense to him, I guess. It made sense to me, too. Well, it used to make sense to me, that is. That was when he was just some insignificant bully with no real characterization at all. Now, I can't see him as the loyal Death Eater that I once thought that he would turn out to be.

In HBP, we are given so, so much to work with. There are so many possibilities for Draco, for Snape, for Harry and Draco. I honestly have no clue at all what will happen to Draco, to Snape, to Hogwarts… to the Weasleys, for heaven's sake! I am so pleased with what we have, though. There is so much to work with. Draco - he is not a killer. He cries for things that aren't just petty. There is more to Draco than Harry had once thought. Harry just doesn't have a small hunch that Draco would not have killed Dumbledore - he believes it. That, to me, is what is important. Harry could have easily just believed that it was all Draco's fault rather than Snape's. He could have easily just left him to die in the bathroom with no remorse. But, no - he does not think Draco is a killer. He sees something in Draco that he didn't think was there before.

HBP is so important to the Harry/Draco relationship, I think. So important to how Harry sees Draco as a human being. Now that we have this much to work with, I honestly can't imagine Harry/Draco without any of the events that had happened in this book, no matter how long I've been shipping them together. And it was such a nice turn of events to have Harry be the one obsessed, rather than Draco.

And, because of these events that had occurred in HBP, I just can't help wondering what the hell would have happened if Draco didn't act like an arse when he first met Harry. Would Harry have taken his hand in friendship, I wonder? And would that lead to Harry not fighting to be placed in anywhere but Slytherin, because he has a friend there? Being friends with Harry Potter, could that have changed Draco somehow? Things like that make me realize how important the events that happen in the books are to the characters. (…god i suck at explaining things. XD)

For more helpful insight on the characters, I suggest for you to read the following essays:
Dragon of Bad Faith: Draco Malfoy and Existentialism
Dragon of Bad Faith: Draco Malfoy and Existentialism pt. II
Draco Malfoy: Villain or Victim?
Showing Who You Are
The Dynamic of Draco (and what it means for Harry)

Also, if you'd like to discuss the probability of Harry/Draco or the characterization of the characters, it'd probably be best to try to open up the discussion at one of the essays mentioned above.

Oh, and, just to warn you: the genres of the fanmix music vary from j-pop all the way to metal-ish songs. Haha!! :X Some of the songs might not make sense to you, but I hope at least most of them will, since they did to me.

Enjoy! And, er… yeah. *awkwaaaard*
