Literature

Within the past month and a half, I would say, I have read, purchased, and desired to purchase literature compusively. I would like to "sound off" all of the literature that has been, in one way or another, within my raidar(sp?) within the afforementioned time frame. Literature will be highlighted in two catagories; "Literature Unread" and " ( Read more... )

I've read Anna Karenina, 1984, Inferno and The Complete Sherlock Holmes Vols. I and II from your list of unpurchased literature. They're all really good. You said you plan on buying one to three of those 33 books; I think you should definitely get Anna Karenina, as you seem to enjoy Russian literature and because it's considered to be one of the best of all time. And because I really liked it.

Dude, Anna Karanina was pretty much the book I planned on buying before any other book, but I discovered the Barnes and Noble Classics Series. The Barnes & Noble Classics Series has Anna Karanina, but I've been wanting to get the Oprah's Book Club edition because it's supposed to have the best translation. Today, though, I have started considering buying the Barnes and Noble Classics Series translation instead because it's just more convenient to do so. Constance Garnett, who is the translator of the Barnes and Noble Classics edition, thus far has proved to be a satisfactory translator, as she has translated all the Dostoevsky books that I have read thus far. Still, I may hold out and buy the Oprah's Book Club edition, which is translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, the two who translated my edition of The Brothers Karamazov.

< lj - cut > without the spaces ;)

Hey, Corey and I have read a bunch of those books. I think He has a lot of them if you wanted to borrow instead of buy. A lot of his books have notes and underlining though so I dunno if you want to read that...

Yay Books!

:)! The thing is, Aimy, I'm confused as to where I should place the actual "< lj - cut >." I'm going to buy all of them. The majority of those books are Barnes and Noble Classics, which is a series that I really like so I'm planning on purchasing those editions. The exceptions are as follows: Anna Karenina - I'm going to buy the Oprah's Book Club edition of this one; East of Eden - There's no Barnes and Noble Series edition of this book. I'm going to buy the Oprah's Book Club edition of this one; The Grapes of Wrath - There's no Barnes and Noble Series edition of this one; The Kingdom of God is Within You - There's no Barnes and Noble Series edition of this one; Thus Spoke Zarathustra - There's no Barnes and Noble Series edition of this one; 1984 - There's no Barnes and Noble Series edition of this one; Crime & Punishment - There's no Barnes & Noble Series edition of this one. Thanks for the offer though!

you place the < lj-cut > right before the material that you want cut

so if you write a long entry (like this one)

After this paragraph: Literature
Within the past month and a half, I would say, I have read, purchased, and desired to purchase literature compusively. I would like to "sound off" all of the literature that has been, in one way or another, within my raidar(sp?) within the afforementioned time frame. Literature will be highlighted in two catagories; "Literature Unread" and "Literature Unpurchased as of Yet." I do not know how to use an LJ cut and so I am sorry for inconveniencing everyone, as this entry will be lengthy. Aimy Steadman once mentioned to me how to use an LJ cut, but her mention was unclear and so I never actually retained what I was supposed to regarding how to use an LJ cut.

you would insert the LJ cut.

So cultured. God, that is rare these days. Personally I have never been much of a reader but when I do I tend to lean towards the classics and scientific literature.

Dostoevsky is...sigh! :)

Dostoevsky melts me. Dostoevsky is my favorite author. I'm in love with Dostoevsky's literature, Dostoevsky's mind.
