i think his speech was great. very moving and intelligent and eloquent. all the things we forgot were possible from a modern president with bush in the white house for 8 years. i really like obama. i think he has already brought this country together, and has already lifted the whole worlds spirit--and that in and of itself is a huge accomplishment.
but i think when the dust settles, people are going to wait for him to fail. i think people expect change tomorrow. i think that people aren't going to give him a chance. i just hope everybody knows that things aren't going to get better right away just because there is a new president. i understand that it will possibly take more than 4 years to bring this country back on its feet, but i think he will steer us in the right direction, and he will accomplish good things. he has already brought happiness and unity to a country so depressed and distraught, and i think thats so impressive.
I agree with everything you say. I was talking to friend earlier about how I got a little choked up watching the speech. It was a clear break with Bush's eight years. It was also a bit amusing to see Bush's reaction to Obama's speech. He didn't seem to happy.
We all are though :)
Oh, and I'm wearing a Barack Obama shirt today. I'm very proud to be an American today.
brushed my hair and teeth (with different brushes)
LOL, I should hope so!
I am a big fan of Obama's. I thought his speech was nice, though it could've been better. The one thing that really stood out to me, that the audience loudly applauded, though no one since has really focused much on, was when he said to the leaders of the countries who are against the west, "Your people will judge you on what you build, not what you destroy."
That really resonated with me, and I think it shows what kind of man he is: more focused on the positive, rather than the negative.
I totally agree. I think he wants Americans to focus on the positive as well. He's made some pretty lofty promises, and, from what his aides all say, he's going to begin tackling them all tomorrow. This could be a 100 days to rival FDR's first 100 days.
I liked the speech, but, like I said, there wasn't a "Ask not..." or "The only thing we have to fear..." moment. It all was good, but no one line (other than the one you mentioned) really struck me as iconic. I kind of expected him to.
Yes, I did, too. But in the end, it's really more about what he does in office than his opening speech. I do think he's going to work very hard to make his first 100 days a legacy.

I'm eager to see what he has in store for us!
