It's a tragedy. Other countries aren't better, or perfect, but there's no reason why we can't learn from them and develop a better system.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I've heard of similar things happening in Britain, which is terrible. I hope that wouldn't happen here in the U.S.
Well, Danielle and I are not teachers. We both are assistants. She works with one student in the classroom, while I work in various classrooms, with over 120 kids a day, everyday. I co-teach special ed, but that's more because the guy I work with... shall we say, needs help. At any rate, the school district limits our hours so they don't have to pay us well, or pay us health insurance. Once I get my credential (end of next year) I'll be a teacher and have health insurance.
I really feel for you. I don't have health insurance, either, and that could easily be my story, because I have a slew of dental problems. The state I live in does offer health coverage (not including dental), which you pay for according to income bracket, a lot more than most states offer. But, with the economic crisis, there's now a wait-list of something like 20,000 people, so there's really no hope of getting coverage that way
( ... )
I feel the same way. Those at the top (including most lawmakers) have health insurance, so do their families, so they don't give a crap about us po' folk.
I hope we all get adequate health insurance someday. It is so tragic that our country has failed so miserably, and it is all rooted in money and greed, not compassion for the sick or poor.
Good luck to you and Amy! Hope you girls stay healthy :)

I didn't contemplate suicide, though-- just felt that death was welcome, should it come.
