There are now several thousand computers world wide working on "Folding". Every computer speeds up the process of understanding how Proteins work and efect disease and cancers, and well everything.

do they protect you from viruses when all networked up like that?

Im not too sure about the virus question. But i was using it for a fair while and didn't find anything out of ordinary. APart from ussually threats that is.
