I have a question for everyone on a topic that's recently been brought up ...

What should we qualify as an LDR? Should we have a distance limit? A time between visits limit? Should we even have a limit?

I'm just questioning the validity of a 50 mile distance, seeing each other every weekend as an LDR.

Thoughts?

Once a week doesn't really seem like an LDR to me either. I had a boyfriend in high school I saw twice a month, we lived about that far apart, and I didn't consider us long distance. We just had lives that got in the way of our seeing each other all the time.

I'm sort of with photofrog. Maybe there should be some explanation of why that's long distance?

These are the guidelines from loversfaraway:

1.Every member of LFA must meet at least ONE of the following distance requirements:

1. It takes you and your SO over an hour by car to see each other.
2. You see each other less than once every two weeks.
3. You are in different countries.
4. You have something concrete keeping you apart (jail, boot camp, etc.). This does not include college.

I think these guidelines seem fair!

I tend to agree with this, but then, I spend INSANE money on plane tickets. If he were 50 miles away, hell, I'd WALK that. :)

Hmm. I do like the rules that loversfaraway has but I'm not sure how much my input would count now that I'm SD. I think there's a difference that needs to be drawn between long distance and being busy. I commuted 50 miles into work when I was in college, on the train - a pain? Yes. LDR? Not so much. Not sure how to justify it though, maybe case by case? I'd just think it would be a bit hurtful to those who are quite far away from their SOs.

Like I said though, who knows if I count now ;)

It's complex. When my boyfriend & I were short-distance, we were 1.5 hours apart. But we lived in the same town (London). Some people consider living 1.5 hours apart in *different* towns to be long-distance.

I don't really know, TBH! I think it's a pretty personal thing. But some people would consider 1.5 hours apart as LD, when for me it was SD!
