I-Pod Scuffle

Sep 19, 2005 00:05

I walked into the new Apple Store at the mall today. Immediately I notice the hoards of people hovering over the I-Pods. I find it amazing how this little contraption has brought a company from the depths of financial ruin, back into the forefront of American consumer prominence ( Read more... )

actually i want one because the mp3 player i have will only store about 30 songs at a time. with the I-pod i can put all my music plus any cds that i can rip into mp3s. I can go through my songs when i wanted tohear them instead of saying "Fuck, I need to put this song on here later" then forget about it till next time i use it.

but alas, im in the same boat as you. i just dont have the 200 bucks to buy one.

Oh totally, like I said, I want one too... but my point is, there are lots of other mp3 players out there that will store the same mind-blowing number of songs for less.... but Apple has done an amazing job of making people believe that the I-Pod is the ONLY player that can do that. But like I said, I still want one! :-)

I love my ipod, its not pretty, not colored body... the screen is color but thats the extent of it. I didn't want it for a fashion statement, the bigger ones (although they came out with the nano pod), are bulky, and semi annoying. I do not do the whole file transfering thing unless I absolutely have to. It beats carrying around a cd player and a case of 500 cds when you want to listen. :)

you should get one, instead of the phone that will make you pay more a month, or the bike :) lol. Im ranting now.

My Point Being... :-) distantstar888 September 19 2005, 22:44:09 UTC
Haha, OK, so as expected, everyone is kinda missing my point. Yes, I-Pods are great for what they are, and I know not everyone buys them to be fashionable, and yes, I know most people think they're great cuz they play great music and such. But my point is, for the same amount of memory, you can pay 30-50 dollars less per unit if you go with an off-brand, like Kangaroo, who by the way, has a LONG reputation for making quality file storage devices.

I'm not condemning anyone for buying an I-Pod, they're great. Instead, I'm applauding Apple for a flawless marketing campaign. The campaign is so good in fact, that I bet nobody else knew there were a wealth of cheaper mp3 players out there. If you have an I-Pod and you love it, great... but I bet when you bought it, or got it as a gift, you never considered buying a different brand for less, because Apple has made you believe that this is the only one out there, or at least the best one to buy. Once again, just pointing out how marketing affects the way we think and shop! :-)

you know what else Apple does really well?

package design

yep, these aren't packages you tear into, they're designed so that they open up to you. the product is almost presented to you, not just shoved into some plastic sleeve. i STILL have my mini iPod packaging, simply because it still amazes me. it's so simple, yet so perfect. even my wall charger adapter, which i bought later, was incredibly presented.

so you wouldn't notice this until you actually bought one, but it's just another thing that apple has gone above and beyond in.

Ahh, see, it's the little things that keep you coming back. You're right though, Apple does those details better than anyone!
