I've been slacking off again. Mostly all of this is a few days old... This entry totally qualifies as a quasi-vintage post! HA! ;)
This is rather long, so I've sectioned it off...
Last Tuesday/Wednesday: When my mom asked me to look for a midnight showing of Batman Begins, I told her I didn't think that there could possibly be one. My mom totally won that time. We were thinking it started the Friday before and when we checked naturally there was nothing there... Then, lo and behold, I find out from a friend that there's a midnight showing on Tuesday. Midnight movies are the coolest thing ever. Seriously. I saw that crazy German again (after we ran into him at the midnight showing of Star Wars) and he actually was able to pick my big whale of a self off the ground :) He's awesome.
But yeah, what a great movie! I could go into (quite a bit of) detail about everything I loved, but I'll spare you that 10-page ramble :) The whole movie had a much more realistic, less-cartoony feel, and everthing was so... grim and dark. (A bit redundant, but you know what I mean.) Very interesting story, great characters, fine acting, beautiful sets... it just had everything. Really really good all around... It's my new favorite superhero movie. I definitely recommend it to everyone. Oh yeah, and Christopher Nolan, the director, also did Memento... THAT explains a few things...
Last Saturday: So, with the onset of summer, I've finally had the time to read some books. I just finished The Poisonwood Bible which is rich and vivid and honest and... yeah. It's just a beautiful novel. I've also gotten around to starting Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. I had just gotten to the part where they were talking about the Villa Diodati and Mary Shelley and the night that supposedly led to the birth of Frankenstein and I was like, "Hey, I know about this!"
There's a movie about it called Gothic that I ended up watching a few years ago on some movie channel when I couldn't sleep. It was pretty late and it creeped me out more than I like to admit... but anyway, the whole story behind, well, the story, is very interesting. I recognized Mary Shelley, of course, but I had no idea that it wasn't just some strange fictional concoction until I looked into it a bit...
When I went to cash a check for my mom, the bank's new policy required me to stamp my thumbprint on the top of the check, which is a good idea but it reminded me of Gattaca a little bit. Next they'll be wanting some skin cells... a few drops of blood... a liver. . .
I think there must be a spider nest in my car. Last week, when it was raining so much, there was a spider above my head (it's a miracle I didn't die of a heart attack) one night and, the next morning, there was one sitting all curled up in the place where the key goes. I had to poke at it until it jumped out and ran away, in all of its creepy spidery glory. Ick...
Oh, and all the little baby frogs! I was a mess when I was driving and they were all out at night, hopping across the roads. It kind of made me think of Frogger except that in the game, the frogs are as big as the cars and trucks that can run them over. If I saw a frog as big as my car, I don't think it would really have to worry too much about me running into it on account of the fact that I would probably swerve my human car-driving self right into a tree.
The family I babysit for just got two 9-week-old kittens. Maggie, the smaller one, is calm and sweet and Minnie, the heartier of the two, can't and doesn't sit still. At some point or another they had both crawled up to bat at my earrings (and, in the case of Minnie, to chew on my hair, clothes, and anything else that appeared even slightly dangly) and Maggie fell asleep in my arms. They are so precious.
This evening, the nicest barista in the world greeted Chris and me at the door of with a "Welcome to Starbucks!" and my chai in hand. Proof that I'm in there waaaay too much but also one of the cutest things that's happened to me in a while.
I got a used typewriter! Well, it's actually a "word processor" but that's close enough... for now. I was so excited when I found it that one of the ladies gave it to me for half price. Yay!

This was taken last September on my birthday (see the candles?) and I know it's little late in coming... The best thing, though, is that this picture is totally unposed. I just said, "Hey!" and he looked up and I took the picture. It was meant to be.
P.S.
A RENT trailer... Finally. Can you believe it? How exciting :)
