i was thinking.... i want to learn more than i am. And by doing that I have to push myself to do those extra little things besides getting my homework done. I need to read instead of sleep, and I need to write instead of watching tv

This is coming from someone at a big expensive private school... ambitious students like you and I pressure ourselves to do so much work and learn so much. I do this to the extent where I just become crazy, and I've been trying lately to tell myself to step back and relax and not worry about having to be productive every second of the day. Learning happens everywhere. You don't necessarily "learn" more from reading and writing than you do from hanging out with your friends, sleeping (and dreaming!), or just having a good conversation. Relaxing and having fun is just as meaningful an experience as doing something "intellectual." I'm not trying to give you advice, I'm just commenting on something I believe that it's taken me years to begin to accept. It's still hard and I often feel like I'm not spending enough time using my brain, but I try to tell myself that what supposedly constitutes using my brain is a bullshit concept that teachers and people in positions of authority have been pushing on us all our lives.
