Okay I totally forgot about this post, forgot to unscreen it. Was at Varun's place last night when his auntie told me she went to Jing for dinner. Reminded me of the awesome time I had there!
Beijing Pork Dumplings - this is a must-order! I wanna go back there because of this. Haha. There were little chillis and vinegar in the sauce + the pork had a nice flavour, not too sedate nor too porky. MMMM I wanna go back there tomorrow! :(
Siewmai - nothing to shout about but the roe on top was a nice addition.
Yam pastry with chicken - I think Pearl didn't like this. I love yam so I loved this, but I have to admit the yam taste in this pastry was bordering on the icky.
Feng Zhao - quite well done cos it wasn't oversteamed and the sauce not too overpowering.
Scallop with Filo pastry! - I like the contrast in textures... Springy chewy scallop/prawns with crackly filo :)
Crispy Duck - Pearl was totally looking forward to this, though I don't know if the dish met her expectations! Haha the skin was crispy alright, but the duck was a little dry. The flavour was nice though, the sauce they added kinda salvaged the dry situation.
Fried Soon Hock in Superior Soya Sauce - who can resist fish in superior soya sauce? This was done well, fish was fresh and the skin nice and crispy. But I was expecting steamed fish (cos I didn't read the menu properly) so was a little disappointed. Hahaha.
Fried Chicken in Distiller's Grains with Wasabi Mayo - This is the 2nd reason why I will go back to Jing (first being the dumplings). I haven't eaten this anywhere else before (maybe I'm noob haha). The batter/chicken was coated with some red alcoholic substance, which I assume are the "distiller's grains"? There was a low tang note from the alcohol, coupled with the zing of the wasabi and creaminess of the mayo. Wah lau this was so damn gooood. And it was crispy too! What a complexity to pull off. Haha. This was even better than the Wasabi Mayo prawns! I say skip the prawns and have this instead. There are so many prawn dishes in the dimsum menu anyway.
OKAY now who wants to go Jing after reading this?! TEXT ME NOW! hahahaha.
