... oh dear. i mean i knew there was... okay i know of one fanartist, whom i love. XD so i'm not surprised there are others hidden away somewhere! but surely it would be more productive to say, hey, artists here, we'd love to participate, can we sign up as well?

ahhh this is why i was hesitant about using that example- i didn't want to make it like, oh distira's complaining about this happening! i just wanted to illustrate a point XD

the thing is that none of the artist complaints were directed to me or lux, and i only stumbled across them by complete accident. we do require covert art from mixers at the comm, so artists are more then welcome to sign up and mix and create beautiful cover art/track listings/booklets, if they want- or ask us if we would do an artist bang in the future or something, you know? but like, idk, one of the complaints was about somebody having waited for so long for a bang to happen in footie fandom. why wait, why not put one together yourself? or talk to other people to see if there's interest if you don't have time or something. sigh.

no no, I think you're good, it was one point among many - it was just the only one I hadn't heard about before. :) I wonder if the reason is because they felt like no one would participate? it is harder to get projects off the ground if you don't have contacts or name recognition. but whatever the reason, it really is just a single question away so it's a shame that both groups come out of this disappointed. :(

I still think a lot of these problems come from trying to take what is essentially a bunch of mini-fandoms and merge them into one -- but that's the sport itself, so what are you going to do. (though there's no excuse for flat-out negative comments, ahem.)

ah gotcha, gotcha!

ahhh the mini-fandoms. there's really nothing anyone can do about that, but. frustrating nonetheless! (no, there's zero excuse for that. ever)

~hugs~ I obviously don't want you to ever leave me football fandom, but I definitely know the feeling. (I was just contemplating writing another cathartic THIS IS WHY FOOTBALL FANDOM SUCKS post myself, haha.) I am sorry people are being jerks about footie-bang! I am super excited for it myself, so they can just fuck right off.

it's just such a weird place. I have met so many awesome people here - you included! - and if I could just... hang out with the awesome people, and not have to deal with assholes, that would be excellent. but I don't want to exclude NEW awesome people just because I'm afraid of meeting assholes. the eternal conundrum.

*hugs back* honestly i don't see it happening soon? i love fic too much XD and that's exactly it- i've met great people here, including yourself, that i love and want to kick it with and not deal with everyone else lol

alas alas.

I am having my moment of zen and just accepting that people are going to think I'm an elitist snob bitch, and there's nothing I can do to stop them, and so I should stop worrying about it. let's be the new mountainpeople. the people we like can join our little ~cliquey circle jerk~ and everybody else can fuck off. XD

i think, if i'm going to be honest, you've just outlined all the reasons why i was and am considering leaving the fandom. it just gets tiring, after a while ( ... )

don't leave meeeeeeeeeee

nah girl but like i said before, if the egative shit outweighs the fun of being in a fandom, it's not worth it.

E X A C T L Y like, i wanna talk about fic and otp squee and favorite cliches etc etc etc but before touchline there was nowhere to do it!

re: mini bang, like. me neither! i didn't know they existed! so like, if they want something to happen, make it happen. or if they want to participate in the mini bang, they can just message and say that there's a ton of artist interest, can the next edition maybe be modified in some way? nah mean?

hrrrrrrgh ilu.

because I am physically incapable of seeing a request for more information and not trying to fill it: you can find other people's rec lists here. I do not endorse any content, because I have my own recs for that. XD

HEY LET'S TALK ABOUT FIC AND SHIPPING. I COULD GET BEHIND THAT.

these are all points that i come across all the time being the owner/mod of footballslash. and i know i may come across a little standoff-ish to people who don't know me but honestly i only want good things for the community. once we started revamping the tagging system, the mods asked for feedback and really felt like most want a place to talk and have discussions on pairings/otps/etc. but personally, i don't know how we should tackle this. what do you think is the best way to do this? before when the comm first started until about 2008ish (don't quote me on that) members would post things of the such; "what's your otp~?", picspams etc. it's rare to see any of the like now and when do have, say picspams, i know people look at the pics but barely comment ( ... )

honestly outside of beating the vast majority of fandom over the head and making them read some sort of fandom etiquette primer, i have no idea how to help, which is one of the reasons why i'm so frustrated. bc the thing is that there are people who try! i try, when i make OTP spams or new comms, but the fandom is just so apathetic that nothing seems to take. part of it, i suspect, is that most of our fandom hasn't participated in other fandoms, so they don't realize that there's a standard behavioral code (including commenting/sharing squee/posting OTP spams etc) that is generally adhered to. sigh. i would say like, make a PSA or something about commenting, but it's the kind of thing where i feel like people understand that it's a thing that people do~ they just...don't want to do it?

if i think of anything actually helpful, i'll let you know

i've been thinking about a PSA kind of post for a while now and i guess the only thing that is holding me back is the thought of 'is it really going to do anything?' because let's be real here. it's common sense. you read something. you comment. talk, get to know your writer/reader. but it just doesn't happen any more. ughhhh it's so frustrating.

i want to do an otp discussion post to have people talk/spam their otps but i don't want to do it off the mod account because i want it to be more personal but i don't have an otp ugh

i vaguely remember there being a similar PSA type post at the kink meme before/as i was in the process of leaving it, and it doesn't seem to have changed anything :(

maybe you could make like, an OTP squee week or something? people could sign up to make OTP spams/primers and post them on a schedule, so maybe all the barcelona OTPS on monday, serie a OTPs tuesday, etc. might be a way to boost productivity on that front?

I'm barely IN fandom - I consume but don't produce - but I've seen enough of the wankery thirdhand that I can take a good guess at how you feel. It seems like there's some people out to get the writers I like the most - maybe I am an elitist bitch myself - oh wait, we know that's true - and it makes me want to roll my eyes at them and simply dismiss all this as silly and petty and unimportant, but that is easy for me to say because I am not the venom's target. If it were directed at me, I would likely drop out too. Can't blame ya -- no one has to, or should, put up with unnecessary negativity in their lives. If you and the others go somewhere else, all I ask is that you take me along and let me keep reading and talking to y'all.

jaja that's the thing- i know that it's silly and petty, but it's still frustrating, you know? and it's not there yet but it's getting to the point where it's gonna turn into me thinking, why should i bother to spend my time creating things for people to consume, when those same people that i am providing fic for are just being catty and rude?

but at the same time, fandom has led me to great people, like yourself, and i'm not willing to let go of that yet. so no worries for now! and i for one am perfectly happy to take you along when i do go.
