Oh man I loved that movie. I've been a crazy stalker fan of Christian Bale since American Psycho, and when I found out the casting for Batman Begins (Batman being another crazy obsession) I pretty much just lost my shit. I mean, Equilibrium is very, very close to being B grade schlock. But it's just so freaking cool, you know?
There's a fair few moments when I thought that I could pick what was happening and how things would fall, but I think it erred on the side of doing something familiar well rather than something tired and worn out yet again.
Watching the commentary now, its very good, heaps of detail on how and why he did things. Much better than a Tim Burton commentary...
I loved the Prestige and the Illusionist, the great tradition of two hollywood studios matching concepts and yet in that case they were both awesome movies which was unusual!
It's not so much Bale as the whole movie. Concepts of the world as well as philosophical musings and hung together with cool action and such.
I'm still not sure on Terminator 4... I think terminator 3 managed to fluke a not bad rating that fitted into the timeline, but another one?... Hmmm....

By the way, give the directors commentary a listen if you've got the DVD, I remember it also being quite good.
