Disturbia City
Business District
Where the hustle and bustle of the corporate world takes place. Stock trades, advertisement agencies, even real estate offices and banks; they are located here. Kind of a boring place.
Entertainment District
Shops, clubs and restaurants are located here, conveniently next to the beachline. If you character wants to party, this is the spot to do it; also note that the entrance to the Undercity is here.
The Beachline
On either side of the stretch of beach available to Disturbia City are tall, sharp jetties that prevent crossing; essentially, the thing is fenced off. If your character tries to escape via ocean, well...the sharks get kind of big. That and once they lose sight of the shore, no matter what direction they travel in they end up arriving right back at the same beach they left. However, if all your character is looking for is entertainment, then the beach is a good place for it. The sand and water is beautiful, and there's even a small amusement park on the docks, complete with a few thrill rides and a ferris wheel. Romantic!
Housing District
(See
Housing Assignment post for specific information.)
Becker Heights
Average quality furnished apartments; this is where your character will wake up. Each room has one bathroom and one kitchen, two bedrooms and a small living area.
There is a lobby with mailboxes and a set of doors to the street on the first floor; an elevator opens into it and serves all five floors. There is also a stairwell at both ends of each hallway, with an exit directly from the stairwell on the first floor. Odd-numbered apartments are on one side of the hall; even-numbered apartments are on the other.
"Empty" apartments are not necessarily uninhabited; they may be occupied by NPCs until the time comes for a character to move in.
Tai Li Condominiums
These are much ritzier than the apartments. Four bedroom, two bath with a wide living area, a large, spacious kitchen and a family room, these are where the higher class residents of Disturbia City live.
Getting from Disturbia City to the Undercity
To those residents of Disturbia City who are not on the network, the entrance to the Undercity looks like an abandoned subway station; since the city no longer has a subway, it attracts no attention.
Player characters who look closer will find that, once you go into the "subway station," there are stairs, escalators, and elevators. Try to avoid taking the stairs all the way down. The journey is more than 40 stories underground: enough space for Disturbia City's works (water, sewage, telephone, electricity), as well as the Undercity's mysterious lighting system, then enough space for buildings just as tall as those in the city above. The journey ends in a busy Undercity bus station.
Undercity NPCs can go to Disturbia City, but will rarely choose to do so. Disturbia City NPCs will never go to the Undercity for any reason unless it is explicitly stated by a mod that they have done so.
The Undercity
Everything is similar to the above save for the different Housing arrangements, and the fact that the city stops at the Entertainment District; obviously, being underground, there is no Beachline. Keep in mind that if you'd like your character to be moved beneath that there are risks involved, stated in the
FAQ; be clear on what they are.
Eciver Apartments
Average quality furnished apartments; each room has one bathroom and one kitchen, two bedrooms and a small living area. Not exactly safe, although the doors do come with locks, just as they do topside.
"Haunted" units will experience a variety of phenomena, particularly at night: odd noises, cold spots, residents feeling watched, residents feeling like something heavy is sitting on their chest while they sleep, things seen out of the corner of the eye -- anything you might imagine to make your stay unsettling, but it's up to you to RP it.
Setsun Condominiums
These are much ritzier than the apartments. Four bedroom, two bath with a wide living area, a large, spacious kitchen and a family room; those of the Undercity who live here aren't exactly the moral sort, but nobody can deny their influence or how loudly their money talks.
The Dead
There are no cemeteries in Disturbia above or below: there isn't enough room within the city limits to bury a lot of full-size dead bodies. Thus, when a resident passes on, if they leave a body, the body is taken to a hospital morgue or funeral home and eventually cremated. (In some cases, the body just vanishes.)
The ashes may be kept at home by the family or interred in a high-rise mausoleum in the Residential District. Either way, the ashes are never scattered at the Beachline, and bodies more than a few days old are nigh-unavailable in the city.
(In other words, you'll have to do your grave robbing at the morgue, or make the bodies yourself after getting explicit mod permission.)
