I'm answering your question here to avoid more back-and-forth in Camilla's post. People may have found what Camilla said offensive, but it didn't break any of the rules of the community. As a mod, I can't reject posts I personally don't approve of, except as they violate the rules myself and the other mods have already agreed on.

welcome_wagon is and has always been designed as a safe space where people could introduce themselves without fear of attacks, negative comments, criticism, or other unwelcoming sentiments, however politely phrased they may be. For me to decide that this was something I only enforced when I felt the post in question deserved it would be arbitrary and hypocritical. I hope this clarifies things to some extent.

Darling it does but the woman's original post plainly pointed out that we should suck it up and get used to the fact she was alive and a beloved figurehead was dead. There has to be some kind of decency rule that it breaks. No one in that post became enraged over flippant remarks. This was something that was allowed to pass through that got the whole community upset and a few brave voices spoke out. Some were more crass than other's but they voiced their displeasure none the less.

My question is, is it ok to be offensive in your post then, so long as you say who you are and what you do? I've been told by friends they were rejected by not saying what profession they were in but yet she could say something so blindingly horrible as she did and get it approved, subjecting people that were offended by her words to moderation. It's something to ponder.

Again, all I can say is that I don't know what the criteria of the decency rule you mentioned might be, but it isn't anything that's currently in the WW rules, where not mentioning someone's name or profession is. As I said, it would be very presumptuous of me as a mod to decide what people do and don't find offensive. If you or anyone else have an issue with what Camilla said, you're free to take it up with her. Just not in the WW community.

I think that rule would be common decency and if you wanted to alleviate yourself from headaches you'd realize that a remark like that would garner community outrage. Somethings don't need a specific rule, it's common decency no matter who you are.
