10th Fandom Anniversary!

Aug 15, 2015 21:23

According to the dates on my account over at my old ff.net stomping ground, I first joined the site in March of 2005 and completed my first fic in October of that year ( Read more... )

Happy decanniversary! And thank you for your contribution to the fandom. You've certainly given us quality. Though, of course, we'd be delighted to have more quantity.

In my case I sort of gradually drifted into from the outer wildereness, then the outskirts, so I don't think I can have an anniversary.

Aw, thank you!

Whether you drifted, jumped, wandered, or blasted in, I'm just glad you are here!

Congratulations on your 10 years, DG! I remember finding Echoes from the West in about 2007 and loving some of the beautifully written pieces there (so much better in craft-mastery than ff.net). And then you persuaded me to join LJ (for poetry, I think - perhaps haiku daily?) and that opened up a whole new area of exploration and experimentation.

I still love saiyuki too. For me, it cooled down (not on my side) when Tokyopops lost the licence for the translations or whatever happened; I know that wonderful, talented people in the fandom keep the flow going online but it is just not the same as having the whole tank in your hands to enjoy...

If you can find the time to finish another piece to celebrate your 10 years, that would be magnificent. If not, you've still been a great fan for 10 years and a wise Mod and a good friend ♥

Thank you, dear KK! I met you thanks to EftW, and I am very grateful for it. You've been a dear friend.
I think it may have been 100roadtrips? You did end up contributing quite a bit to that community.

Such a shame about Tokyopop. I keep seeing all these licensing news releases for various anime/manga, crossing my fingers that there will be some word of at least Blast, if not a re-release of the entire series. Is it too much to hope for?

I am working on something probably a little too self-indulgent, re-engaging with overly angsty, bloody, emotionally focused stuff. But I think this is what I needed just to get me writing again. I think it might be useful to try branching out into another series, perhaps? Although I could never give up Saiyuki.

Thank you for still being here. ♥

Happy 10 year anniversary! Myself I celebrated my 10 years back in June. Because of the slowdown, starting with Tokyopop going out of business and slowdown from Japan, I kinda fell out of it, or rather, Saiyuki slipped into the back burner. But the things you loved to heart come back with a vengeance and it hit me hard in the fall of 2013 when I realized how much I missed Saiyuki, Sanzo, and how much there was to catch up on!

Now that I'm in a fairly steadier position than I was when I started as fan I've been able to indulge more on being a fan and collecting goodies I missed out on before. Is Saiyuki my happy place? Absolutely and I'm proud, shameless Sanzo fangirl.

Though I personally focus strictly on the cannon portion of the series, the fandom is mostly in Tumblr (small, but still there), so maybe consider making a Tumblr if you have a chance. It's kinda wonky at times. Still, the manga community remains here in LJ and we're all pretty excited for the upcoming chapter on the 28th. Just a little over a week and a half left to

Hello! Even though you and I have both been around for ten years, we've only recently started communicating. After ten years, there are still new friendships to be found. That's awesome. And yes, it would be hard to fall out of love with a series like Saiyuki. I'm so glad you found your way back. And you've been a very strong supporter and contributor to the fandom, which I really appreciate. Thanks for helping to keep the community alive and getting people involved!

"proud, shameless Sanzo fangirl." *raises hand* Me too! An amazing character who inspires me to be a stronger person.

I think I will have to break down and do just that. You are flower_miko over there, as well? I'll have to look you up.

Yay for new content! The long waits are always so worth it.

On Tumblr I'm under "flowermiko" without the underscore :) but feel free to follow me. I'm working putting together a separate Tumblr blog exclusive for scans. Once I'm settled on the name and got it set up I'll let you know.

And thank you so much for your kind words. It's my pleasure to help our small but still living community. Despite the new chapter being so short (eight pages) it's at least a chapter.

What can we say? We're Sanzo fangirls for life and just cannot get enough of this man. No complaints! Like you he inspires me a lot and that stubborn determination of his, you can't help but admire.

Let me know what user name you have on Tumblr so I add you!! ♥♥♥

Funny idea, I checked my sources as well. I can't remember the exact date I got infected with Saiyuki. It was a Sunday on duty and I finished reading volume 2, it was probably in summer 2004. Well, the end of volume 2 is very infectious, so to say. The German edition had a crappy translation, but a very good layout. Still love the German tankobon more than the English ones. My first contact to Saiyuki- fandom was at "echoes from the west", I found a print-out of "Please" by "Dreams in Flux" with the date 4th June 2005.
I would really like to read more from you. Being a slacker myself (when it comes to fandom), I am in no position to make any requests.
Okay, just one: Please stay healthy and on track, would you?
(Sorry for my literally rotten English.)

Hello, Tina! Yes, you are one of the long-term fans whom I remember from the beginning. I think I met you through Zan, if I remember correctly. Has Blast been released in German? There is an Italian release, apparently, which I am quite jealous of. I need to crack down and finally get serious about learning Japanese, I suppose.

I'll do my best to grant that request, and make the same request back at you!

(Your English is fine! And 1000% better than my non-existent German.) Thank you for your friendship, and for still being around after all this time. I'm so glad you are!
