She was, of course, unaware that Phale was currently mortal.
Rather than let herself in with her key, she knocked, not wanting to interrupt, well, anything.

So he answered the door on the first knock, although since he no longer just knew who was there, he pulled the door open just a crack and peeked out.
"Oh, Marie! Er, do come in." He opened the door the rest of the way, shut it quickly behind her, and waved her into the kitchen. "Tea?"

"Well, not quite back to normal just yet, but this is a definite improvement over the previous arrangement. I'm sure Cole feels the same way."
He kissed her forehead and moved away to make her tea.

"For better or for worse," he muttered to himself as he carried a roll of toilet paper down the stairs with a resolute expression on his face.
