The Divine Leaf

The Divine Leaf is a bookshop/tea room. Two large rooms at the front of the house have been converted into the shop space. The door opens into the bookshop section, where there is an eclectic mixture of antique bookcases holding an even more eclectic assortment of books. If you're looking for the latest bestseller, you're probably not going to find it. On the other hand, if you're more in the market for a first edition nineteenth century children's book, or a mid-sixteenth century translation of Pliny the Younger, then you're in luck. The books are unbelievably reasonable in price, and Aziraphale is happy to place special orders.

Off to the right is a small reading lounge/café area. There are several large and comfortable couches and armchairs, surrounded by low tables with reading lamps. An unobtrusive lunch counter is placed near the back, where customers can purchase sandwiches or pastries, as well as coffee, tea and bottled water. A "Specials" board is updated daily to inform customers as to what's available for that day, although the huge assortment of teas are always available.

Also available for purchase at the lunch counter are a small assortment of tea-related items (teapot/cup sets, packaged teas, etc). All of the teas are available for purchase packaged, other items can either be modded by the customer or by whomever is running the shop that day, as desired.

There is generally some sort of quiet music playing in the background - usually classical or jazz. The space may also be made available for community events, poetry readings, etc.

Aziraphale and Wilson live in the rest of the house, so only the two front rooms are open to the public. The shop is open basically on a morning-to-dinner schedule, unless otherwise stated.

Please note: The Divine Leaf's inventory is going to focus very heavily on rare books, the more obscure or esoteric materials, and Oscar Wilde. The inventory is for the most part moddable, although Aziraphale will be happy to try and help you find what you're looking for. (I take no responsibility if you end up with some strange recommendations, however.)

About the "Wards": This isn't canon, but it's based on what I feel are some common sense assumptions about Aziraphale's abilities. He has extensive canonic control over his environment (he's able to create objects out of thin air, manipulate people's actions, and make people disappear), and he's very territorial about his living space. In game terms, I've translated this to the idea of setting powerful protective "wards" around his home territory -- in this case, the house where he lives and operates his business. Aziraphale can control the wards as he likes, in order to protect himself, Wilson, and his friends/customers. To make things easier to understand, I've basically set up a couple "levels" of warding.

1. As a general rule, the wards that are considered "always on" at the house will allow anyone at all to come and go in any manner they like -- walk through the door, break in through the window, teleport, etc. The only restriction is that no one can enter who intends to do violence to someone who is already inside. This is a one-way restriction. If you're already inside, and you get into a fight, the wards won't do a thing.

2. At night, or at times when Aziraphale feels threatened or in need of extra security, he will intensify the wards so that literally no one except Wilson or himself can go in or out, unless Aziraphale deliberately allows it.

Part of the reason Aziraphale does this is to make available a sanctuary of sorts. So in times of town-wide crisis*, if such a thing should occur, the house on Abbey Road will be available as a safe haven.

If you feel your character is of the sort who would be able to breach angelic wards, please drop me an email and we can discuss.
