One of Those Playground and Ponytail Things

He'd pulled her metaphorical ponytail one too many times lately, and it had blown up in his face.

Or rather, she had gotten in his face, lips tight and eyes like lightning, and after a staring contest lasting all of two seconds, she’d pushed him. Laid a hand on his chest, letting it rest there just long enough so he felt the  connection of hand-shirt-skin-breathe and then she had physically pushed.

He was just about to do something he would have regretted, when he saw the not-just-lightning glimmer in her eye. He took a step, then another, and reached a hand up, tugging lightly at her neat ponytail.

The staring, a different kind of contest this time, lasted for five whole seconds before his hand moved from soft hair to softer skin, and her eyes didn’t glimmer as much as glow, and Chase knew if he didn’t do this now, he’d definitely regret it later on. The spreading smile on Thirteen’s face when he cupped her cheek lit up the room.

Right before their lips met, Chase gave a mental thumbs up to his inner child, both for finally noticing what was right in front of him and for using such universal language as playground teachings to make her notice him back.

Chase was very glad he’d gotten over most of his childish tendencies, though. Remy tasted way too sweet to let something trivial like girl cooties get in the way.

End.
