I think we think a lot of the same thing. However, to quote you, "i think that an opinion is neither fact or fiction but rather what YOU PERSONALLY believe to be true." You're still using the words BELIEVE and OPINION interchangeably. This is because an opinion you hold towards something and a belief you hold towards something are the same thing, and both ar based on truths that we have gathered from personal experience. Ultimately, I think they are both things that are SHADOWS of the truth, but since we can never understand any truth completely, that is where these interims come from.

Michelle, in my opinion I think that opinions and beliefs are essentially the same thing. The higher argument, however, is whether or not there are things that are universally true. There are things in this world that are absolute truth, such as God. God gave humans the ability to decide if they wanted to believe in Him or not. If the choose NOT to believe, they still believe in something, but we as Christians would say they believe in a lie.
The flipside to the belief in universal truths is the idea of 'Relativism'. Ok, you might already know this so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse. Anyways, relativists believe that no absolute truth exists, and truth what we define it to be. So one thing could be absolutely true for one person, and the exact opposite could be true for another person.
Sooooo...figure out if this friend of yours believes in universal truths or in relativistic truth. I'd like to hear about this if it becomes anything;)

His Peace,
Justin
