The trouble with writing speculative fiction off the cuff is that the lack of worldbuilding begins to make itself really obvious right away. All I've done so far is to introduce the three main characters in conflicts that were meant to highlight their central Issues. So, once again, despite plans to plot and etc. in advance, I'm starting NaNo with a few vague characters and setting, and a kind of a theme of a theme. And once again, magic happened anyway. Three Little Wiggins up and kind of running
Happy Canada Day! I passed a quiet holiday getting my website software configured. The inaugural content is a little outside my usual: a rec for a webcomic. Check out my thoughts on Sluggy Freelance. -
Day 30: 2852 words
Oooh: hurt/comfort. Now we're really in trouble. On the plus side, I wrote a co-worker in for the express purpose of setting his character self up to die horribly and heroically -- at his express request. There's no accounting for some people's taste.

Day 26: 3365 words
The slash is taking over. The boys are being so very supportive of one another . . . argh. Had to interrupt the worried comforting and the tense political conflict with the dramatic entrance of the bloody remnants of the field trip.
It seems the writing is now happening only at write-ins. I don't think this one is going to get finished, either. -
Day 24: 3111 words
Now everyone on the field trip is injured or dead, and the nemesis knows the FMC's secret. Back in town, the MMC loses what little cool he had and is comforted by the FMC's brother. Back away from the slash, Diurnal. -
Day 23: 1693 words
Sneaking on skis! FMC's childhood nemesis in a bloody heap! And the not-slaver does his big reveal scene.
Since reaching the 50k, it gets harder and harder to get around to the writing. I think the upcoming big-ass conflict scenes are insufficient carrot for me.
