Getting ready for opening night (week 34)

Nov 06, 2009 20:29

So I made the observation on Facebook that, now that I have only 6 weeks to go, if my due date were opening of a musical I would start rehearsing it now. This led to a flurry of comments from friends, asking if I had a production book, etc. I answered that of course I had a binder, with sections for pediatricians, feeding, etc.! Hmm, when I ran my friends' headwash, folks looked at my schedule and were horrified that I'd calculated it all out. What if something didn't fit my schedule?!?!

Then everything somehow fit my schedule despite several SNAFUs.

Finally, I showed them the whole schedule, and suggested they add up the numbers. All my estimates were padded to include the inevitable SNAFU factor.

For some reason this was surprising. I don't get it. IF you're actually competent at planning things, that includes planning for the fact that some things can't be planned ( ... )

Ah, no worries - I am rarely annoyed by people who know me really well advising me, because it's as you said, most of those people give me factoids or preface it with, "I'll keep this brief because you already know this probably..." So I'm not referring to you or Mom or anyone else who is well aware of my planning style.

Happy Birthday by the way!

I do need to point out that in this economy 6 weeks of rehearsal before opening is a huge luxury. Heh.

I can't imagine having that many people throw advice at me about things I already have a handle on. The advantage of stage managing is very few people want to do it, and most have no idea how. Unlike birthing babies, apparently.

Hmmm, yes, I think I was counting pre-production too...but this is MY musical so I can take those luxuries! :)

Yeah, I'm realizing how much I lucked out with wedding planning, that most people stayed out of my way on that one - maybe in part because I had you as well. I'm appreciating even more the onesie I bought Ellie that reads, "My Mommy doesn't want your advice."
