What the heck is a Doula? (week 26)

Friday night Mike and I went to "Meet the Doula" night at a Palo Alto birthing class center. What is a Doula you may ask? A doula (not dolma, as one co-worker asked, but still a Greek word) is a woman who assists with childbirth or post-partum childcare, depending on her area of expertise. I have heard of Doulas before but didn't know much about the specifics of what they do. That list of tasks sounds awesome - especially in the hospital. You are so right about nursing shift changes making the world you are in entirely different - the same thing happened to me with the thyroid surgeries this summer.

I hope the follow-up goes well.
