» Ability: As the former messenger of God, Gabriel still has the ability to make himself heard as he said in the Bible to be able to speak without words. He is able to speak in a whisper and make himself heard to someone across a room. However he can only do this with one person at a time.
» Occupation: Nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital.
» History: Gabriel is an Archangel of God, an angel of the highest rank who stands at God's left hand. He is an angel of communication, messages, and counsel. He brings announcements and is the bringer of news. He is a manifestation of God's judgment and is listed among the six angels of death as he brings the message of death to kings.
He is said to be the Power of God, but also an angel of consolation and divine mercy. He is more concerned with matters of Heaven as he presides over paradise and the cherubim.
Gabriel first appears in the Hebrew Bible to the prophet Daniel. He appeared several times to guide Daniel along and give him understanding when it came to his visions. Though Gabriel is not named, it is understood that this angel is him. He brings Abraham the news of the birth of Isaac, protects the infant Moses, and protected Israel in Egypt. He is also an angel of death, said to be the angel that rained fire down on Sodom when God became enraged at what was going on there.
Gabriel is mentioned only twice in the New Testament and a few more times as an unnamed angel He is mentioned by name when he appears to Zacharias in the Gospel of Luke to tell him that his barren wife Elisabeth would conceive before striking him mute before the birth of his son and then a second time to tell him of the coming of Jesus. It is Gabriel who is said to have appeared to the shepherds in Bethlehem to announce the birth of the Savior and tell them to follow the star to lead them to the Nativity. He also appeared in a dream to Joseph telling him that the child Mary carried was miraculous and instructing him to care for her. Later Gabriel appeared in Gethsemene where Jesus suffered the Agony and gave him strength. He was present during the Passion and Resurrection, telling the women who bore the myrrh of Jesus's rising once more.
It is said that it is Gabriel who will blow his horn to announce the second coming of Christ and the end of days.
» Reincarnations: Daniel was born to a middle class family in Brooklyn, the youngest of three children His childhood was fairly uneventful, he was a normal if a bit quite boy who did fairly decent in school and was well behaved. His parents were Catholic, though not devout he was baptized, did First Communion and went to church with his parents, making sure to pay attention to the nun in Sunday School and was honest in Confession.
God was such a distant concept for him, someone who sat up on a cloud far away in Heaven. That changed when he was 10 years old with a dove hitting his window one quiet Saturday afternoon. The window shattered and the bloody bird fell into his room right in front of him in a pool of light. It was a strange sight for him, especially since doves were not exactly the most common bird to come flopping through the window.
It was in that moment, however, that memories flooded back to him as he picked up the bird in his hands, the entirely of his past life as the Archangel Gabriel in a few moments. It was entirely too much for a 10 year old to handle and he could only scream, dropping the bird which had died in his hands. His parents could never understand what had happened to him as he changed after that day, becoming more withdrawn. He would not go to church for many years as he worked through the past memories, coming to terms with who he was, something that he hid from his parents as he knew that they never would have believed him had he told them.
He applied himself from that day onwards, feeling as he had a purpose in life. His parents helped him through college where he had to decide what path to take that would allow him to fulfill what he considered his duty even if he was no longer an angel. He eventually decided to become a nurse, though he worked hard out of a sense of duty of helping others but not out of his own self interests.
» Personality: For the most part, Gabriel is kind and merciful. Comforting others is important to him and he takes that duty seriously. He does not shy away from doing unpleasant things though, he knows that one must take the good with the bad in life to fully appreciate it.
Gabriel is quiet for the most part but he is hardly shy. He speaks softly but forcefully as he does not let himself be ignored. Gabriel simply chooses his words carefully and speaks when necessary, he's not much of a talker but he feels he doesn't have to be to get his point across. It is easy to mistake him for being overly serious, but always polite, but he does have moments where he will let himself relax when the business of the day is finished and can be cheerful at times. He enjoys the mortal world and intends to live life to the fullest while being true to God's will.
He is an optimist above all, he was the angel who announced mankind's salvation after all. He sees the state of the world but he is still hopeful that things will still be alright in the end. He sees that this will come through faith in God and following the path He had set out.
He holds himself to a very high standard. As former Archangel who stood at God's left hand, he has a very strict sense of loyalty and duty, especially to God. He is compassionate, however, forgiving of others when they stray but he knows there are many paths to God so he considers himself an example for others to follow.
Gabriel is with his flaws, however. He does have a temper and can be unforgiving of those who seem determined to reject and shun God to seek only evil. He knows they will eventually face their own day of judgment but he can be cold and without mercy nonetheless at times. He is not a pacifist, he will not sit back and allow injustice or let others walk all over him. He's the strength of God and though he can no longer rain down fire at God's command, he is not weak in this life. He has a strong will and sense of determination to do what he feels is right.

» Sample Roleplay: The day was cold and Daniel shivered despite his several layers of clothing and wool scarf bundled around his neck. He walked briskly in the chilly air though he was still quite a bit early for his shift at the hospital. He didn't mind, being early always gave him time to stop by the hospital chapel to say prayer for the day for God to watch over them before getting to work.
It was early morning so the chapel was empty and quiet as he preferred, too much noise was distracting. He pushed down the pang of homesickness as he finished, looking up at the cross hanging above the alter. Here he felt once more connected to God but he was still so far away from Heaven and Him. But Gabriel had faith that there was a reason he was human now, and he would live this life without dwelling on other things that only made him sad. Making the sign of the cross as he rose, he headed out to the corridors of the hospital.
It would be another long day, that he could tell as he made his way through the busy halls and to where the nurses could get ready for their shifts. He gave a small, polite smile and greeting to a fellow nurse as he went to his locker but left it at that. It wasn't that he didn't like who he worked with, it was simply that he was not one of those who was quite as chatty. He certainly didn't involve himself with the gossip and personal politics that often went on. He preferred to focus on what he was here to do, helping those had most need of it and that's what he would do.
