I NEED A BETTER HOBBY.

I'll admit, half of this essay has been sitting in my headspace for a while.  Like. Uh. The week after I apped Colette. I just never got around to writing it all down until now, after flailing at various people about Colette and how I see her.  I THINK I AM DIFFERENT TO 99.999% OF FANDOM. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD THING OR NOT :/

Cut for MIGHTY BLATHERING )

You should! Okay I may be a little biased, but part of why I love ToS is that the heroes are deeply flawed and get massive amounts of development during the game.

It also makes me cry a lot at what they do and how they do it. But in a good way, not a baww this sucks i hate the game developers way.

You can get the game on eBay because it's relatively old. It's how I got it! Also the manga is relatively faithful to the story, it just cuts out parts for length.

She definitely does. I remember how she personally has taken on responsibility for the events of Palmacosta and the Mana Cannon and not told anyone of Mithos' involvement in the whole thing. While the ToS2 characters talk up Mithos and how awesome he was, the feelings they have towards the heroes of ToS are complicated; Marta and Colette and Emil and Lloyd. She lets Marta throw her into a wall because of the guilt she experiences and hopes that it helps Marta.

But she also doesn't want to die to absolve her guilt anymore. That's why she resists Richter taking her Cruxis Crystal. The Colette of ToS would have given it to him, believing that his need is more important than her desire to live. The Colette of ToS2 believes that her desire to live outweighs an unexplained desire for her crystal and so he can't have it.

It's surprising how much of this game I do not remember. I SHOULD REALLY REPLAY.

INDEED YOU SHOULD and then play the sequel. I love the ToS2 characters too, and Marta's easily in my top five characters from the duology. I just love how the characters and the game develops.

My Wii does need a workout.

(Hilariously? enough, one thing I DO remember about playing ToS was hating Zelos [apologies to Zelos-mun]. It's the only time I have ever disliked the "ladies' man" character.)

This is why I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE COLETTE HATERS or the people who say she's a Mary Sue. Did you play the game, people!!

What makes me go :?!! is that they dislike Colette because she doesn't talk about her problems and then in the same breath love Zelos who, in the game they apparently played, is very eloquent about his issues of self-worth all the time. Come on people.

But she's nice and self-sacrificing so obviously she has a sparkly purple hair job on the sly? Not that the entire theme of the game was deconstruction of sacrificial tropes or anything.

GEEZ GUYS
