Whee! We finally have power again! Best birthday present ever!

The winds here are picking up, with some pretty decent gusts. No rain or anything at all like that yet. Power flickered briefly when the gusts started, but so far things seem stable. Not too worried about things here just yet. We removed all possible loose objects, trimmed dead branches from trees and put them in the garage, so hopefully there won' ( Read more... )

So I'm back home up in Sugar Land to weather whatever comes from Ike, will be alright up here. I'm getting worried about everything of mine back in Galveston. The projected paths keep moving over Galveston, and if there's any flooding I stand to lose quite a bit of stuff that I couldn't get up high. So looks like I have to leave the island now, campus issued a mandatory evac, and Galveston issued a mandatory one for the west end and voluntary one for the east end. Not looking forward to it. Probably heading to college station.

So here I sit looking over data on the next hurricane now in the gulf, Ike. Trying to figure out where it's headed and such. Already I'm tired of this hurricane season, and I hope this one doesn't do much to Galveston. I really really don't want to evacuate.

So I finally had a bit saved up for pets, so I went out and got myself a pair of beautiful rats. I've owned 'em before, and they are an absolute joy. Got a pair of lovely ladies, one younger and smaller than the other.
