History:

Once upon a time (in a futuristic time), genetic manipulation was unrestricted.

It became somewhat of a fad to be altered in such a way that would give one animalistic features; it became very erotic, and when the demand for altered persons spiked, it became a lucrative, underworld business. The "Lost Children" sprung up, a group of descendants or freshly manipulated children who had either been kidnapped or run away and had no where else to go; alone and abused, many of these young children became prostitutes living in horrid conditions.

Among them was Nill, a petite, blond girl. She had been given wings at a reasonably young age, from a new breed of "mad scientists" whom delighted in playing 'god'. The scientists had the idea to take something important from whomever they manipulated, so as to disable them in some way and keep any of them from becoming superior than they, and to this ideal, Nill lost her voice when she was forcibly given her wings.

Altered, with almost rare wings, the little blond was plunged headfirst into prostitution. Learning of her existence, and wanting to add a winged fetish mutant to his collection of prostitutes, a gangster named Mel (or Melvin) sent goons to track her down. Once, they managed to, and she only just skirted their attempt to corner her, making them seem stupid and suffer Mel's wrath, and allowing them to thus dub her a "pain in the ass". The chase intensified.

It all came down to one night in an alley off of the underground city. It was dark, a shady area in an already shady part of town; men warmed themselves by trashcan fires, and the sound of gaudy women laughing echoed between brick buildings. Nill was running with a tattered cloak over her shoulder and head in an attempt to cover her wings and blond hair. She had just passed an idly walking blond man when she was shoved roughly to the ground.

Nill struggled with all her might, but against two gangster thugs, she had no chance. The white haired man she had passed watched for a moment, seemingly unconcerned by the sight before him. It was a common sight, and one that not many people could afford to get involved with, or would bother to get involved with, and he didn't, until the cloak was ripped off, revealing her wings.

For a reason beyond the blond until later, the blond man saved her from the gangsters, even going so far as to take her to a motel. He allowed her to wash up, and then began to question her; simple things to do with her family, home, friends, contacts. Naturally, not having any of those, she couldn't answer, and couldn't even tell him her name. But when he asked her how old she was, NIll indicated fourteen - using her fingers.

The man was named Heine. And he was nice to her, immediately understanding her plight, sympathizing with her for the mutations she underwent. The two of them sat on beds opposite one another when he spoke, stating "I'm the same...as you." before putting his head in his hands. Nill attempted to comfort him, and unable to offer nice words, she had tried to pat his head, only for Heine to freak out over some inner demons.

Nill would have perhaps felt scared that she'd done something wrong to upset him, if more gangsters hadn't burst into the apartment right at that moment and occupied all her fears. It was horrible timing - Heine was still freaking out over her attempt to initiate physical contact, and while he shot the two gangsters who had come in the front door, he didn't make it down the hallway before being shot in the stomach by a third. It was a gory sight, the blood and sight of bullet holes made all the worse by the fact that he fell out of a window. Having a front row seat to all this, Nill fainted.

When she awoke, the girl was in the captivity of Mel, and suffered a few slaps and kicks for causing him so much trouble. Mel himself was in charge of her until she was sold, and had just threatened to "teach her a lesson", to break her in before the customers got to her when gunfire sounded. Distracted, Mel opened the door to the room they were in and Nill dashed into the hallway and away from him. It was a desperate attempt, and almost seemed fruitless with Mel hot on her heels until she rounded a corner and almost ran smack dab into Heine once again!

It turned out that he was the source of the gunfire - him, and his red headed, eyepatch friend Badou Nails. Trapped between Heine with his gun, and Mel and his guns, Heine had to jump over her and she ran between his legs and ran behind a corner while Heine and Mel began their gunfight. It was violent, and culminated with a shot to the gut for Mel. Heine received several injuries, too, however, and before both Nill and Mel's very eyes, he seems to recover instantly. The bandage around his previously concealed neck fell, revealing a collar around (embedded in?) his neck - a mark that he, too, was genetically manipulated.

The gunshot to Mel's stomach was fatal, and when he bled to death in the hallway, Heine turned to Nill and asked if she was afraid of him, to which she responded with a smile and the smallest of nods.

Thus marks the end of her horrifying beginning! Heine and Badou took Nill "home", to the church with the priest who dictated their missions to the two men. The priest, as it turned out, had a bit of a lolita complex and delighted in dressing Nill up in designer dresses! He terrified Nill, but it was a safe place, and felt it. And she finally divulged her name to Heine, drawing it on the palm of his hand with her fingers.

It was certainly safe, and Nill saw Heine and Badou enough when they came to the church. Nill managed to get into Heine's defenses, becoming one of the few that he allowed to get close to him. They spent a little bit of quality time in the chapel of the church, making idle conversation. Or, well, Heine talked and Nill listened, and when she could she would offer small gestures of comfort like touching his face, or giving him a concerned look. But Heine often left her in the church with the creepy priest, and eventually took to doing small chores around the place.

And okay, it was a lie to say that had been the end of the terrifying part.

Someone took over for Mel the gangster, and continued to pursue Nill - going after Heine and Badou in order to track her down. A female by the name of Naoto arrived at the church just as a group of gangsters burst in. Before the priest could interveen, Naoto jumped in and dominated in a fight with the gangsters with nothing but a sword - no, a katana. She completely kicked their asses, too.

Naoto had come to learn more about the man who had a similar sword to hers, and perhaps link more memory and fact to her past, and the scar across her chest. Heine has a similar problem with memory and his past, and when Naoto expresses her want to learn more, the priest cryptically says "Trying to regain what you lost in the past can sometimes destroy what you have now. Always remember that there are ways to live without what you've lost". Nill was there to overhear that, it is quite possible she didn't fully understand, but it heavily entangled with Heine - and he is her favorite person.

One day, the four of them were in a room together. Naoto and Nill stumbled upon a conversation in which Badou demanded that Heine recount the story of his collar. It was a harrowing tale of abuses, kidnapping, monsters, blood and guts. Badou brushes it off, and Naoto demands that he tell her how to get into the facility in which he was altered so she can infiltrate and stop it, and Nill just sort of seems confused.

They continued to hang out, perhaps talking a little more about Heine's past. Nill took up a shirt of Naoto's and began to mend it, or try to. She wasn't very good with the needle and thread, though, and when a button pops off, Badou takes the shirt and expertly mends it. This, of couse, is shocking to everyone - the gunslinger sewing a shirt like a master housewife before lecturing Naoto about doing this herself - being ladylike about this. It cracks Heine up, and even Nill, although her laugh is silent.

Silent, maybe, but it gets the attention of her companions and it seems that the sight of her so happy makes the other three happy - heartened. It's a calm before a storm, really, for a few seconds later, a humungous explosion sounds, shaking the church and scaring the hell out of Nill! She bolts under a table while Naoto and Heine jet off to find the source and Badou remains there, smoking like nothing was wrong. He idly talks, while she cowers with her hands over her ears.

Personality:

Nill is a soft spoken girl. disappears! No, but really, she's quite - and probably would have been even if she still had use of her vocal chords. She's a nice girl, a sweet girl; she holds genuine affection for Heine, as well as Badou and Naoto. As all three of them are in dangerous "professions" and often get hurt, she tends to worry about them a lot, and even if Heine heals instantly from any injuries and even if Naoto is a strong girl, she still sits with them when they are hurt, and spends a great deal of effort mending rips in their clothing, even if she cannot sew all that well; it's the thought that counts.

She possibly has a little street smarts, as she did have to survive on her own for a good time. She's cautious, and a little shy, as well as probably a little unwilling to get too close to people. Heine was a special exception, as he rescued her, as was Badou. Naoto, too, so generally it is a trusting basis for how her friendships grow.

She's got a bit of a protective streak that's formed after being exposed to her new friends for so long, but this doesn't extend past wailing her little fists on a man twice her height, and bringing Naoto her sword, even if it meant coming between her and Magato. Still, Nill is easy to scare, but hard to anger. This all comes back to her being a sweet girl, and a tolerant girl - she puts up with being dressed up by a priest and an old lady, and probably even enjoys it a little - the lolita dresses are girly and eccentric, frilly and pretty, and what fourteen year old girl wouldn't enjoy that? For all her history and the world she lives in, Nill is still a little girl.

Skills | Powers:

She's a girl, really, and the only really extraordinary thing about her are her angel wings - genetically altered bits added by a scientist. She is simply horrible at mending, and cannot speak either. She's not really strong, nor is she properly educated - although she can write and read.

Perhaps one thing Nill has going for her is her speed. She's a very fast runner, often able to outrun full grown men.

[the feed flicks on, and there is a shot of little shiny shoes. the feed is stable for a moment before shaking slightly, as if someone is holding it and giving it a testing rattle. when nothing seems to change, the feed is stationary again on the small shoes. they're shiny, and whomever is wearing them can be seen wearing white stockings as well.]

[after a moment, the forge seems to turn, and gradually, strands of blond hair and soft skin come into view, and eventually a childish looking face, with big blue eyes and a face framed by blond hair. oh, it's Nill! looking a little confused, and rather scared as well, but mostly confused.]

[she raises a hand and waves cautiously at the camera. her head cocks to the side and her mouth opens, even if no noise comes out. after a moment, she closes her mouth again. a look of enlightenment crosses her features, and for a moment, Nill places the forge down and disappears off screen - after a moment, she returns with a scrap of paper with a scrawled note across it.]

i'm lost.

i don't know where i am . and i can't find my church .

i cannot find any church , actually ....

[a long break in which nothing is written and then;]

i can't find any of my friends , either .

Third Person Sample:

In all honesty, she hadn't remembered falling asleep. Last she remembered, she had been under the table, hands clamped tightly over her ears and eyes clenched tightly as if both of those precautions would temper the terrifying explosions that were shaking the earth. And here, the ground was stationary, and a thick blanket was drawn over her form, hot and bothersome; overheated with the weight of the blankets atop of her day clothing.

The slight blond sat up, pushing the covers from her and blinking.

Oh no... No, this wasn't right. It didn't seem right, and it didn't seem like home. Not only for the lack of Badou and table and shaking earth, but for the plush, soft sheets, white pillows and springy mattress - in all manner of things, a nicer bed than she had back in a room at the church. It smelled different, too, and when she drew open the blinds, and gazed at the mixture of ruins and a newer city, it was very - extremely - obvious that this...wasn't home. Nill had no idea where this was.

A lump started to rise in her throat, panicked and unsure. This was terrifying - worse than waking up in a place she didn't want to be in, but expected. Nill held her breath for a moment, as if to surpress the rising bought of hyperventilation that she feared might be coming. The urge to slither under the covers and hide - or, even better, under the bed, or in the closet - rose within her, along with the slightest bit of hysteria.

What if she was alone? What if she wasn't alone - but was alone save for dangerous people? Nill felt that...perhaps she could resort to the means of survival she used before but that sounded...so - so bad. So unpromising and so lonely because she had friends now, and good friends. Heine and Badou - Naoto and even the priest and -

...And...and perhaps they were here, too. Her eyes were swimming with the thought of tears before that idea entered her mind. And slowly, the hysteria ebbed. Nill sniffled brokenly and dapped at her nose and eyes with the back of her hand. With some work, she pried open the window with delicate hands and inched it open, poking her light blond head out of the window and looking down the outside wall... She wasn't alone, possibly.

A few hours passed.

Nill lay on the bed. She poked around the room. And she decided that she would, first, make a cloak from the sheets - unless she could find one elsewhere - and second, scour the street. Start close to this...this rest place, and gradually branch out until she could find...someone.

...Yeah, that was a good course of action.

[ooc; both (all three) of these samples were from my application from scorched ; the basic premises had her waking up in a clean room in the initial housing complex, and the first person samples I feel are rather interchangeable for whichever game applied to. If anything else needs to be clarified, please let me know.]
