SHOOT ME! I have had a massive headache off and on for 6 days. I have managed to keep it from becoming a migraine, but no amount of medicine, neck stretches, or sleep have truly helped. I just want to be able to sleep, which I can't do until my head stops hurting at least a little. I've tried everything aside from muscle relaxers, which is next ( Read more... )

Have you tried lying with your head on the heating pad? That's my usual trick when I have a really brutal headache. It eases it a bit so that it'll be bearable. A couple of times I've had the heating pad on the back of my head and a cool cloth on my forehead.

I hope you can find something that works soon. Headaches are definitely no fun at all.

I have had physical therapy for my neck because the muscles will knot up and cause migraines. Usually heat and my stretches fix things, but this time, it wasn't just caused by the tension in my neck. We've had lots of wacky weather and changes in barometric pressure, and I've been PMS-ing. Not a good combo. It is getting better after lots and lots of heat, stretches, Excedrin, muscle relaxers and sleep. Now I just have a headache hangover while my body tries to re-establish normalcy. Thanks for the advice and well wishes!

Two muscle relaxers, lots of heat and stretching, lots of Excedrin, and lots of sleep later, it has abated. It's still a bit touch and go if I move my head in certain ways, but much improved. Now, I feel like I have a hangover, which is usually how I feel after a migraine. It's still better than the headache.

It's probably not a true migraine but a cluster headache, which is more related to muscle tension around the head an neck (aka stress, big surprise there, no doubt *g ( ... )

I have had physical therapy for this issue and doing the heat and my neck stretches usually fixes things. However, it hasn't been helping this time. It's finally subsiding after 2 muscle relaxers, more Excedrin than any one human should ever ingest, lots of heat, lots of stretching, and lots of sleep. I still have to be careful in what I am doing and how I move my neck, but it is vastly better. I think that the combination of tension, 2 very quick changes in the weather (cold and rainy to warm and sunny back to cold and rainy), and PMS were just more than my neck muscles and the muscles in my occipital section of my head could handle. Each issue will cause me headaches, but all three together was just a whammy. Thanks for the suggestions!

You're most welcome; I get stress headaches myself so I know how difficult they can be to treat.
